Toni Collette got absolutely snubbed for best actress. Her performance in Heriditary was amazing, but Oscars never recognize horror films .

I'm annoyed that the score for Mission Impossible: Fallout wasn't nominated. That's my favorite score of last year for sure (admittedly, I haven't seen all those movies). It had a better score than Black Panther for sure though.

Got a good laugh out of the best picture noms. Backroom Oscar politics at its most transparent.
Fantastic foreign-language selections though. I've seen all of them except Never Look Away and they were all great.

They scrapped that for this year. I think it is still slated to come into effect for next year.

I watched BlackkKlansman and I was really looking forward to it. I actually thought it was kind of lame and boring. Maybe it was my mood at the time or something?

Probably. Hype can sometimes elevate expectations too high. I thought it was pretty great myself. Spike Lee has a real shot at best director, and I thought Adam Driver honestly deserves the nomination for best supporting actor. Tough category this year though.

I think this was my favorite scene in any movie this year:

Too late to turn back now - Cornelius Bros and Sister Rose
 https://www.fandango.com/movie-news/...lansman-753355
Fandango: One of my favorite scenes in the movie is the dance scene because it's one of the only moments in the film that the characters seem like they're relaxed, they're enjoying themselves--
Spike Lee: Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose.
Fandango: "Too Late To Turn Back Now." Why is that scene important to the film?
Spike Lee: And that's a very good question. It was a very shortcut way to show they were falling in love with the song and that dance together. That's how it used to be back in the day before Tinder and all this other ####. You used to ask any girl to dance. Come now, you know what I'm talking about!

I'm pretty surprised Bradley Cooper wasn't nominated for best director for A Star is Born. Wasn't that his directorial debut? And he nailed it.

Shoplifters is an amazing movie. So many layers.
It was the Cannes winner and should win here as well.

Black Panther for best picture is ridiculous. Fun movie for sure, and a pretty solid addition to the Marvel canon. But Oscar-worthy? Gimme a break.

They’ve been choosing a “pop” film every year it seems. Makes sense it was Black Panther over the others, but there were certainly many more deserving movies.

For the Oscars and Grammys I always come back to a line by Macklemore:

If they're picking a popular movie, I would argue that Infinity War and Mission Impossible Fallout were better films than Black Panther.

The Metascores for those three movies respectively were, 68, 86 and 88.

Bohemian Rhapsody was 49, and I thought more people would be complaining about that nomination.

Yea, the Bohemian Rhapsody nomination doesn't make sense either. I do agree with the Rami Malek nomination though. The movie itself was average at best, but his performance was great.
