Kind of reminds me of when Jim Benning was making all kinds of headscratchers and that ownership were meddling. Oilers might be in 'playoff now' mode for financial reasons and window of opportunity. If that were the case though I still have no idea what he's doing

Three year commitment for season ticket holders is done this year. Free mullet stylings and courses on matching sweatpants with good shoes will no longer be enough to keep current ticket holders.

That behind the back save sealed the deal for Chia.

I sure hope that Koskinen manages to royally crap the bed tonight against the Wings so I have something to do over the all-star break: Watch Oiler fans continue to melt down about the signing, the season, the GM, and the rest of it.
A really poor performance tonight while the ink is still wet on that glorious contract would be so much fun!

This is happening in Edmonton, all the Fire Chia folks don't understand the next guy coming in is another yes man/puppet for Lowe and company.

McDavid is speaking so somber and depressed. As if his team should be doing better.
If this were 2016-17, they would probably be reasonably happy with their position, just out of a wild card spot at the All Star break. But now this year they are somehow expected to win, with an even worse roster and without the horses to do it. And because it’s expected, a recent 4th overall pick and a first rounder might get traded away in an attempt to meet those unrealistic expectations.
I love seeing the players like McDavid taking responsibility for their GM’s incompetence. Just sucks the soul out of them up north. Larsson is another example; shredded himself post-game, and while he is just in a minor slump of an overall somewhat average career, he will always be compared with Hall. And now he has to answer for why he is failing to meet expectations, and you can tell it’s actually very upsetting to him.
Beyond the deep rooted incompetence of the ownership and management, the ongoing hype and falsely inflated expectations may actually be that team’s biggest problem. As painful as it is for is to watch media pump their tires every year, believing that hype may just be the most important Achilles heel in that organization.

Today is the second anniversary of Spector's career defining piece.
If you're on twitter, make sure to wish @sportsnetspec a happy anniversary.

Edmonton officially passed Calgary Saturday night, in both the macro and micro sense of the word.
The Oilers moved nine points ahead of the Flames in the standings and will not be caught by their rivals this season. In the bigger picture, Edmonton is where Calgary was supposed to be by now, well on their way to being a top-10 National Hockey League team with an long and bright future.
Calgary has been the better franchise for many years. They are not anymore, and are firmly in the chase position from this point forward.
It’s a big change in Alberta, and it won’t be changing back soon.

I’m a bit behind, so don’t know if this has already been posted. The timing of the coil signing Kosco was clearly to distract from the other waiver moves made. Desperate to distract from some past bad moves, so they made this bold move to keep old Ebbs trade from headlines.
E=Ng then, still does now.

On Reddit, all the Oilers fans are crying for everyone to stop making fun of them.
It's as if they forgot their cockiness when they won 3 games in a row earlier in the season. Oilers are back baby, you can't make fun of us now!
What a terrible franchise, including the fans.

Oil Stain embraces the comedic tragic pathos that are the Oilers.

Calgary currently leads Edmonton by 20 points...
incredible how there could be a 30 pt swing in the span of 2 years.
