make sure you tarp your load before you go. I have been to the dump numerous times throughout my home reno's and have seen bylaw officers handing out fines to average joe's for not having tarped their load first.

That's what bugs me. There's times I go with about 300 kg, and that costs me $15. Had I made 2 trips, it would have cost me less.

Is the extra trip and time wasted worth saving $5.00?

I work there over the summer often, (spyhill) and if you go during peak hours, there is a tendency to give out 5$ tickets to all domestic loads that don't look too huge, so you'll only pay the 5 bucks. This was during the summer though, so I don't imagine it'll be that busy during the winter...
But yea, cover your load, I haven't been caught yet, but its a pretty hefty fine as far as I know.

when I take a dump out in the woods, I don't usually tarp my load, but I do cover it in dirt/snow.

Yes, it is. However it just sucks when you find out that you are over by a couple of kilograms, and me being the nice guy and taking my neighbour's empty TV box now cost me double what I would have spent.

Let that be a lesson to you. Never be a nice guy unless by doing so it guarantees you a piece of tang.

I've seen signs around the city where people will take your crap to the dump for you. That would be handy. I've got three fridges that have to go, but they're from my rental properties, and I don't really want to enlist help from friends for my business.
Anyone use this service? Know anything about the costs?

I think they charged FG around $500 last spring for a full truck load, and that was a "deal" because he was in a wheelchair.
Wait- sorry. We had 2 truck loads. I think it was closer to $300 or $350. But that was just regular trash like building materials that they could back the truck up and pull the lever. Fridges would need more special care.
Maybe call up a used appliance place? They might pick up for free or for cheaper because they could use old parts.
