When I go for a lot of stuff, I bring the shopping baskets I bought, the ones that are the same size as the in-store ones but without straps. Very handy; you can fit three in the shopping cart and they make the cart/car/house transfer a slick operation!

Yeah, but Safeway has the machine that spits out the change - the cashier only needs to worry about bills.
And has anyone seen the commercial for Interac where the people in the cafeteria are all moving like a machine, then it has to stop so one person can pay cash? What a load of BS - going through a Wendy's drive-thru for lunch (bad, I know) you can always tell who uses interac because the it takes noticeably longer.

Why would you shop Safeway? I spend a few years working there and they have the highest prices in the grocery industry. Shop Superstore, they have the lowest prices.

i shop safeway because i only buy what is on special, and superstore stopped carrying the mitchells products for some reason.
plus superstore's meat isn't too amazing, i've bought steaks that were all grisle on the bottom.
honestly i do most of my shopping at costco, safeway i use for everyday stuff, superstore is a good place for dried goods and deli stuff (cheese etc.).

Yes, I'm aware of this. I was just debating the statement that it takes a lot longer to use debit/credit card than cash. As someone that does the vast majority of my family of five's grocery shopping, I don't see a difference.

In the grocery lane I think you are correct. There is always the final items getting put in bags at the same time so it really doesn't make that much difference.

it's not the extra ten seconds, it's the extra 60 seconds when you're in a line and there's screaming kids etc. and you glance at the tabloids only to ralize that the weekly world news aren't there anymore and you really need a batboy update because you're worried he may be on the loose again and i need another cup of coffee - anyone else?

I refuse to buy their meat as well. I've had all sorts of problems with them.

I think the thing is that people like most of us on CP are somewhat technically minded (notice I said most, Fotze); and those of us take very little time to run an Interac transaction. However you get the people who have only ever used an ATM twice before that slow things down.

I work part time at Safeway and it takes quite a bit longer when people pay with debit ... there is usually this uncomfortable silence while you're wating for interac to be apporved and for the reciept to print. Pay with cash and it takes no time at all .. especially since I only have to worry about the bills - so easy
The thing that really irks me is when I'm working and people think they can be rude to me for absolutely no reason and they know full well that I have to take what they give me. I don't see the point in being rude, especially to a stranger - I'm sorry they're unhappy people but that isn't my fault ... I never let people treat me that way when I'm not working .. I always stick up for myself - just wish I could when I'm working too.
Also, the guys old enough to be my dad who hit on me ... gross. Last night I had a guy who had to be at least 65 ask me if I was single .. even if I were, does he actually think I'd wanna go on a date? When I told him I wasn't, he then proceeded to tell me I was a stunning woman and that my dad must be proud .. What the hell?? What a creeper.

Buy a bin. My wife bought 6, and now she never has to worry about it. They're handy for carrying groceries in from the van too.

We use Superstore for everything except meat and produce. Then we go to Co-op. My wife laughs at people that shop at Safeway. She says they're blowing tonnes of money.

I noticed the same about Superstores meat. I get my meat from Sobeys.
As for Costco you have to watch your prices as they aren't always the cheapist. I do like their frozen section though and the prepaired foods they sell.

and i laugh at people that drive 5 bucks of gas away to save 28 cents on a gallon of milk.
the reason i'm airing my grievances aboot safeway, that seems to have passed over the heads of those that think i do all my shopping there, is that they got rid of the cash-only express lane.
as in, the lane for getting one item and getting out fast.
i guess everyone has different grocery habits, i only have to shop for myself usually so i do the big staple shop twice a month, and get 2 items twice a week.

I have a new one- full screen movies on TV.
Like right now Spike is doing their "007 Days of Christmas", and of course at the begining they start by showing the opening in widescreen, then just as it gets rolling they pan back in and show it in full screen.

i watch the prices everywhere.
i love it when people say 'safeway has the highest prices anywhere, if you shop there you're an idiot LOL'
funny stuff.
there's people that shop at places for bragging rights, and there's people that actually shop and clip coupons (mostly cards nowadays) and get deals here and deals there.
costco is tough to beat on many things but to think they're automatically the cheapest is like thinking safeway is automatically the most expensive.
in general, yeah. but sometimes i don't feel like tripping over 3% of calgary for a loaf of bread, the thrift police are probably already on their way.

I didn't say my wife laughs at you. Although it's possible, apparently a lot of people do.
How come Home Depot has the self check-out lanes, but Rona doesn't? I really hate it that if you shop at Rona at night they only have one till open, and you can possibly have 5 or more guys lined up there if you hit it wrong. I wish they had a bunch of those self check-out tills so you could get through it without the lineup. You can staff four of those stations with just one person watching all four.

Actually, you can fit five of the purple bins; two of them can be hooked on length-wise (side by side) to the specially designed U shaped hooks at the back. Edit: Bottom rack at the back.
And seconded on the ease of loading up 6 of those bins into the back of our SUV - no shopping bags falling over during (spirited) cornering.

Well check it out for yourself-- I don't pay transaction fees at debit machines (except those private ones where they add the fee to the total bill). As long as I use CIBC, Amicus or President's choice machines there are no fees for withdrawls either (but there are fees for using other banks machines ie: royal, td, etc) I haven't paid a transaction fee in about 5 years! And no I don't have to keep a minimum balance or anything.

i didn't say she did, else i would have uh... said that.
i run into people all the time that nearly flip out when they see the safeway card in my wallet. i tend to think people have a lot of time on their hands these days!
home despot is on my grievance list, though for different reasons.
i don't like the automatic tills, i've spent some time working out of town and used to like coming in on the weekends for buying this and that and having a minimum of social interaction.
for those that don't need to speak to employees, why not just order it online?
