Of course, they ignore that Gretzky was miles ahead of other players until Mario came along. How far ahead is McDavid versus other players?

That is a good point. Gretzky was demonstrably better than anyone else at that time. A key feature was he was innovative, doing things that had never been tried before and that set him even further apart from his peers.

We won’t see that with McDavid, and it isn’t fair for them to expect it from him. But they do.

As good as McDavid is today, he’d be much better anywhere else in the league. This is because he would have been given the room and the support to develop rather than given task of becoming the messiah.

Beautiful boardings and charming clippings can’t be too far behind.

Seriously that is gutter journalism.

I'm surprised because Rob is usually pretty even about the Oilers, but that's a pretty reprehensible comment.

Good on Bingo for calling him out.

BTW here are the grades for the Oilers in last nights game

https://edmontonjournal.com/sports/h...tle-of-alberta

Giving McDavid a 7 seems to be an exaggeration, he was pretty invisible to me in that game, and continued his famous flybys.

Personally I think Koskinen was the best player for the Oilers last night, without some really big saves this game is 7 or 8 to 2. Calgary flat out dominated the game.

I don't have a problem with the Edmonton media being frustrated that McDavid has to defend himself against a guy like Hathaway. I do have a problem with them thinking McDavid is the only player putting up with this.

In this case though it's easy to see a McDavid cross check, punch and then pushing Hathaway's head down. No halo in this dust up.

This season we have Gaudreau drilled face first into the boards by Benn in Montreal and by Cagulia against Edmonton. No call on either.

Then, as Jermain Franklin pointed out, while SNET continually showed Hamonic giving McDavid "an extra shot", they didn't mention McDavid highsticking Hamonic immediately before then.

I love how beaten down that fanbase is right now. Great weekend for the Flames! Hopefully Ferland and Dougie get a bunch of points tonight in a Hurricanes victory.

What an amazing feeling it is to be a Flames fan right now eh? I go into every game anticipating a win. It’s almost an unprecedented feeling for me as a sports fan. This must be what it’s like to cheer for the Patriots.

Being an Oilers fan is almost certainly the exact opposite.

Just searched for some Kassian fight vids. All I could find were shots of him punching people in the face with his gloves on, trying to fight smaller non fighters or getting into an actual fight, and never landing a punch.

He is really no good.

also nit-pickings stats to make Oilers look better. Of course the oilers will have more playoff wins if you include their cup run but not the flames.

Sorry, nothing derogatory was meant by it.

But these days intent means nothing.

If Edmonton wins every single game from here on out, they will have 117 points.
According to sportsclubstats, Calgary getting 117 points is its 10th most occurring outcome, using the weighted outcomes.

I don't know if they're still really pissy about the Tkachuk/Kassian incident or if they actually think the Oilers won that little exchange. I don't know if I would keep drawing attention to how stupid Kassian is and how hard he bit on that to give the Flames what should have been a 5 minute PP. It pretty much went like this...

They're really pissy. The fact that they all seem to think Kassian "won" that exchange is extra hilarious. Tkachuck is so far in their heads that they think losing is winning.
