Edmonton media praising really good cross checks?
https://edmontonjournal.com/sports/h...e-7bff6b0be067
Quote:
People fed up with the liberties being taken on McDavid have been calling on Edmonton to play the opposition’s stars a little harder. They saw some of that in the third period, when Lucic put a really nice crosscheck on Gaudreau that had the Flames forward wincing on the bench.

Really nice crosscheck and making a positive out of a player wincing on the bench? That city deserves all the misery it gets.

As a fan, I certainly enjoy it when the Flames play McDavid tough, annoy him, and get in his face, etc.. That's hockey. But do I wish injury on the guy? Absolutely not. I actually feel kinda bad for the kid as he seems like a decent guy, and it can't be fun playing for such a dumpster fire of a franchise when you're that talented. If Edmonton misses the playoffs this year, which is very likely at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if he requests a trade at the end of the season.

I wonder if McDavid quietly asks for a trade in the offseason. A few more seasons like this and he's probably going to lose his love for the game as he's getting pulled in deeper to the Oilers vortex that almost destroyed the careers of Hall, Dubnyk, Schultz, etc. The guy looks miserable.

At this point you are not a reporter, but rather a fanboy with revenge fantasies.

It really is fitting how bush league their local media is. Other people must see it.
"A really nice crosscheck" Goodness gracious.
The whining about the refereeing too. As fans we whine for sure, but a journalist? Especially in a game that was called pretty even. There was BS calls and missed calls on both sides. Anybody see the shot to the head on Gaudreau? Nobody is talking about that.
Its just embarrasingly bush league, and I'm sure the fans lap it up.

He may have already asked, that's why the oilers panicked and said they were looking to make a trade for help up front. "Plus Hitch's comments that McDavid was the best player on the ice...", is the player unhappy? Their only option may be to trade him for the 1st to whichever team wins the lottery and start over,

You can't say these things.
You might get away with it on a fan forum or in a column but if you're employed by a (respectable?) newspaper/website you just can't let your personal frustration take over.
Seriously, what happens when a 12 year old kid reads this and decides to 'really good cross check' an opponent if things aren't going his way?
It shouldn't annoy me, but it does.

The only penalty on McDavid was the high stick. All the other abuse he got was within the rules. Hathaway did a masterful job on him and to his slight credit, McDavid gave as good as he got on that exchange and didnt complain.
Lucic's cross check was a penalty as was Kassian's hit on Gio which was fortunate that Gio was afoot or so too far away from the boards, because Kassian didn't really care, the intent was to injure.

Definitely surprising that it's coming from Tychkowski. I'd expect that from David 'I'm a fan, not a journalist' Staples but you know things are bad when their most level headed propaganda officer is cracking.

Yeah it's one thing for their propaganda spewing blog writer to put something like that into print but kind of shocking it's coming from an NHL regional journalist. Do the newspapers just let these guys submit without editorial approval? I just can't remember anything like this before.

Lowe hates the Flames more then anything , and with him the propaganda manager for the media, games against the Flames are more intense then playoff games up there, so the media takes its pathetic cues and take from that. Hack journalism but anything to disguise the fact that the Flames were superior last night and McDavid got zero points and 3 shots.

I gotta eat some crow on Hathaway. Heading into the season I felt he wasn't an NHLer - and did not have much of a role. But he's playing his role very well - as a PKer, agitator and generally effective 4th liner. Having an impact where he can. No complaints about him at all.

Just a week or two ago, the HNIC panel roasted the Oilers for their fake toughness. Now the tone has changed. What hasn't changed is the fake toughness, yes, there were hits and scrums and penalties but they are all silo events. That garbage team doesnt support each other. McD being mcdone by Hathaway and Drai was just watching there. It is so good to see their team work trending to that direction.
That whole team is broken.

I as well wouldn't have shed a tear if he was shipped to Stockton earlier in the season. Seems like Peters unsurprisingly knows a lot better than us.
