Maybe McD was worried that J Garnett Hathaway was behind that D man and didn’t want more of what he was giving out last night.

It's cool that a fourth liner can hang with McDavid and give him fits.

As someone who earlier this year was feeling that Backlund had lost most of his offensive ability, his last few games have changed my mind. His goal was an excellent individual effort but I don't think enough has been said about how great a pass he made on Kylington's goal.

There had been some talk that Backlund had a hand injury early this season - if true, maybe it's healing/healed?

Feeling great this morning. Win against the Canes now would be a fantastic way to go into the break.

Got home really late last night. So, what do you guys think, would it be worth it watching the game PVR recording now?

What a sad and pathetic time to be a fan when that’s what you’re cheering for, rather than icing a competitive team. Just pathetic

Wondered which going to be more important then, I think last night answered the question definitively!
It’s probably a pretty good rule of thumb to discard an oiler fan’s opinion of what constitutes a “good” gm......

Those fans whose only hope is to have some goon intentionally injure players deserve every ####ty night they get. Keep losing oilers, it suits your fan base.

CGY young D are playing fantastic. Their play in defensive zone and transition is steadily improving, you rarely see them go off the glass or ice it. Valimaki about to return too.

CGY just keeps the train rolling on time. Just great to see.

It's because they can't win, and they know it. They know that the Oilers have no recourse, and that playing hockey with the Flames will not bode well in their favour. The only chance the Oilers have to beat the Flames is injure them all, and even then, it may not be enough.

Does anyone have a replay of Ryan Nothing-Happens massive slash on Backlund late in the game. No one talked about it. I visibly cringed when I seen it. It happened maybe in the last 5 mins of the game. Backlund didnt react that much must have caught him in a area with protection.

No throwaway match ups in the playoffs.

The Flames have had some tough physical battles with the Wild recently and if you think it's going to be easy or won't take a physical toll, you're wrong.

As an aside, no gif of Tkachuk caveman face on Kassian yet?

From Eric Francis' Write-up this morning at Sportsnet.

"All McDavid had to show for his evening was a split lip and a cut above his eye, courtesy of a Mark Giordano high stick and a Garnet Hathaway cross-check."
