- People who buy you a Christmas present when you didn't expect it and you didn't buy them anything.

- People who use credit or debit cards for small purchases. I mean come on, you don't have enough change in your pocket to cover that Calgary Sun and chocolate milk? What about a fiver? You don't have one of those? Carry a little bit of cash man!

I'm one of those people. I never have cash on me because I don't drive or live close to my bank.

oh and people who say

"Nuff Said" sweet Jesus will is it so hard to type out "Enough said?"

Oh and people that always find a reason to like or dislike music (my sister mostly) she only will enjoy if the lyrics are poetic and the instrumentals take 3 years to choreograph, they way I see it you don’t need a reason to enjoy music you either like it or you don’t

These people obviously forget the bank charges that come with each debit transaction. My gawd I'd love to their bank statement at the end of the month. Cripes the fee is probably is as much as the chocolate milk itself.

What times are those? The "pay ridiculous service fees times" or the "I can't manage to keep 20 bucks in my pocket for my own convenience times".

No wonder the banks make so much damn money.

And rubecube, you don't have to drive or live near your bank to get cash. Them newfangled bank machines are all over the place.

While using the debit card and incurring transaction fees for such small purchases isnt smart, I believe that using a credit card that is associated with an award is smart, even for small purchases. For example, I use an American Airlines credit card..1 dollar is 1 mile. The daily Starbucks my husband drinks might only cost a couple of dollars, but in a year, thats about 750 miles alone! We put everything (including our rent) on this credit card, and then we're able to fly to Alberta free, once a year We were going to spend the money anyways, whether it be cash or cc or debit card, so we might as well get something free out of it.

Speaking of getting with the times......... I've been on a banking plan that includes unlimited electronic transactions since the mid 90's.

Now that using a bank other than my own costs me $4 per transaction, I use Interac a fair bit rather than paying a service fee.

Yeah, but then I have to pay $2.50 to get money out.

My bank plan costs 6 dollars per month for unlimited transactions. Question is how many people use that feature or are aware of it.

I usually take $200 at a time out of the instant teller and keep that for spending cash.

A point that hasn't been mentioned is the cost to the retailer for doing these piddling transactions. Canyon Meadows Cinemas got tired of people using debit for a $5.00 movie ticket and the costs associated with it so they institued a cash only payment. It's amazing how many people howl in protest over this. Then some independant company put a cash machine just inside the entrance.

IIRC some convienece stores put a dollar limit on debit transactions in the past.

Ahhh yes, Mr Kyoto. Let's have that traffic sit and idle some more. More than they have to because you think it is "common sense" to help move yourself along and no one else.

"Technically" against the rules? Wow, at least you are admitting that you are breaking the law. At least we won't have to have a public inquiry to find that one out now. And by the way, Calgary has an amazing Plus 15 tier for pedestrians. Ever heard of it? I don't think there are many vehicles up there either, come to think of it.

As the saying goes... two wrongs... As Jiri said, vehicles wait for all the pedestians first. Then it is the vehicles turn. Can't grasp that? Stand back from the curb and the smell of diesel isn't so bad either.

Nice generalization Rouge. For the most part, I actually find Calgary drivers to be pretty good, with a small percentage of idiots who overshadow the masses. I, for one, obey the rules of the road and appreciate the clear majority that do so as well.

There you go. I'm with those times as well and I don't pay for service fees that involve my own bank machine either, but not every debit machine is my bank, so I pay through the ringding if the machine isn't green and they often aren't. And even if it is free, it's still a timewaster pushing the buttons and waiting for the "approved" sign and then getting those bigass receipts.

I understand debit is convenient and I use it all the time, but what's even more convenient is stopping at a cash machine every once in a while and getting a hundred bucks so I don't have to pay service charges on piddling little things.

Geez dude, it's just a bunch of blabbing. Calm down.

Nice to hear that you never break the law. That is impressive. You must be real popular on Deerfoot, peddling along at 100. I'm sure you never do a rolling stop at a dead 4-way or you get right down to 30 in every deserted schoolzone.

Mr. Kyoto? And you accuse me of generalizing? Sheesh.

Another of my annoyances. *******s who don't give me room on the road. I pay my taxes and have just as much right to ride there as you have to drive. Patient guys like you are part of the problem.

I wish I didn't read this because this didn't bother me so much before, now when someone is putting his importance over mine by breaking the law in front of me it is going to grate on me.

Does anyone know where you can get a horn for your car that is super loud and sounds like screetching tires?

Really... do you always stop for a yellow or do you sometimes speed up in order to make it through so you don't have to wait at a red? Because then you're breaking the law. There's a new one for me...

Drivers who think it's okay for them to break the law because they're in a hurry, but who won't let the pedestrian do so because it holds them up. Awww muffin. You have to sit in your warm car for an extra few minutes while I'm outside in the cold. How many of you carpool to reduce the number of cars downtown? If you're that concerned about congestion, try doing something to help reduce it, instead of being irritated at those who ARE doing their part.

Drivers who don't wait until I'm well across the road and turn when there's merely inches to spare, especially when it's icy out. If I slip while you're barrelling around the corner, you've just creamed me. I'm already skittish walking across pure ice, I don't need you driving like a jackass right beside me as well.

I don't think you get it FireFly. Let me give you a specific example.

9th ave and 5th street SW. Walking south on 5th street on the east side of the street (passing by Cowboy's) the walk sign goes to flashing, and then to solid "don't walk" for a good 10 seconds prior to the main light going amber. Why is this? So that southbound traffic has a chance to turn east on 9th ave. Otherwise with all the pedestrian traffic the cars have no chance to turn.

That would cause traffic to back up on 5th street, then back up on 6th ave, then back up on 4th street, then back up on 9th ave, then you have gridlock.

What the city is trying to do is prevent gridlock, without having to specifically put a green turn arrow from a one way street one another one way.
