Gerald Ford was one of those guys that it takes a real amount of effort not to like. He might not have been the best president, but he sure seemed like a stand-up guy.
Plus he watched the football game and had some nachos with Homer Simpson, so he had that going for him as well.

I read he was a linebacker on the team that won the national championship.
Some people say he cost himself a chance at re-election when he pardoned Nixon. But, in hindsight, doing that allowed the US to get over Watergate faster. The pardon avoided years of legal proceedings and allowed the country to move on. Yes, it allowed Nixon to "get away with it" (even though he did resign as president), but perhaps the greater good was avoiding years of acrimonious investigations.

Lots of people also say he did a good job helping the country get over the pain of Vietnam.
Pardoning Nixon was the first step.

He actually played both ways, center and LB and if I'm not mistaken he was on 2 Michigan National Champions.

well, according to the nixon tapes i think it was mostly a kissinger go-ahead, he represented the real masters.
how people blame presidents specifically for these war crimes, i'll never know, but if any of them are ever taken to task maybe the truth might leak out a bit.
he's responsible to some degree, he's the manager of the local wal-mart that screws over its workers. he facilitates policy but does not write it.
ford was a man who played the game. he was on the warren commision, he knew where the ruling class had laid it lines in the sand, and i daresay he even humbled the 'asteroid' (now neo-con) ultra-insane super-war faction of the government facilitators, secretary of state dick cheney and minister of defense donald rumsfeld who were against detente with the soviets because of some mythical indetectable nuclear-missile armed submarines. CIA said they didn't exist, said the intelligence was faulty...
weapons of mass destruction! why do we keep listening to these madmen?

Pardoning Nixon didn't win many votes but I think the whole country was sick of Viet Nam and Nixon and anybody that was connected to them including Ford. Pardoning Nixon was probably the best for the nation but he still would have probably lost.

I think two way players were pretty common in the olden days. When I started watching the CFL the backup quarterback also played defensive half. Roster spots were too valuable to waste on someone holding a clipboard.

Definitely.
I think he was all-American at both positions though. I could be wrong on that.
