Funny you say that Hemi, because I've been meaning to post about this for a few days.

Ryan is quietly one of the tougher guys on the team.

WHen you watch his minutes closely, he takes an absolute beating out there every shift.

For a guy lacking size it's a really impressive pitbull display. Quietly, he takes a ton of punishment out there.

The Islanders clearly need to sweeten the deal by adding Barzal.

Eberle is overrated. Not saying he would be a bad add for the Flames with the right usage but people get caught too caught up in draft pedigree and junior performance when assessing how good someone is today. He's got 23 points this year and everyone craps all over Bennett for not producing enough who has 16 points in half the ice time.

Frolik has the same amount of goals in less games with no powerplay time and is a way better possession player. Plus he has term left on his deal. Even looking at the last 5 years, the difference in goals produced is not that big (.29 goals a game vs .22) considering Frolik is not given the same quality of offensive opportunity and the corsi difference is spectacular in Frolik's favour like 7% ish.

The isles aren't trading a goalie anyway but if you're saying the value is way off it's solely based on Eberle's edmonton reputation not what he's doing today. His performance has taken a dive and he was never a good player outside the other team's zone to begin with.

Eberle is a guy that has a high skill level that you are hoping to acquire at a reasonable price... someone, like Versteeg that can add to your second PP unit.

Whether he is able to get back to that level is an unknown, but its a classic case of "buy low" and hoping that playing in Calgary, where he makes his offseason home, will inspire him to play up to his potential

obviously, we don't know if the Isles would "sell low"... but i'd do it for a second round pick and a low prospect...

I'm on the other side of the fence. I feel like a big change could disrupt team chemistry on the ice and in the room.

To CGY;
Muzzin, 3rd

Gio - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Muzzin - Andersson
Valimaki
Kylington

We could always flip muzzin for a first at the draft. Kind of use him as a rental for a cup run at the cost of Stone and Mangiapane.

Him being a bit of a whipping boy has surprised me a little.

Good story overall with how he's made the NHL, hasn't really hurt the team on the ice, and has filled the role of 4th line C admirably. Which was needed due to a lack of C depth overall organizationally IMO.

Really only issue has been the performance of PP2...and honestly I think that he's not even the biggest issue on that unit. Neal, Backlund, Bennett also have struggled on that unit to get any type of offense going. (His 2 goals on PP2 actually lead that unit).

But people never seemed to be able to get over the "Peters favourites" label that came with him from Carolina.

Jesus...

Stop trading away 1st round picks. Our most recent one was Juuso Valimaki. Those have a lot more value than the Jake Muzzin's of the world.

I doubt another team gives us a 1st in return for him.

You have no idea if either of them are playoff capable until they've played a playoff game.

I hate assuming that young players can't deliver in the playoffs just because they haven't been there before, especially exceptionally talented defensemen like Valimaki and Kylington.

A late first rounder (between 27-31st overall) has more value than a 40 point, physical, big, puck moving, 29 year old, cup winning D man with another year at 4 Million dollars after this year?

Going into the playoffs, we have 5 locks I'd say. Gio, Brodie, Hanifin, Hamonic and Andersson. Stone's a good experienced guy but he's had a serious injury. Valimaki and Kylington look like NHL players, but they're both inexperienced. One more add would be nice, but not Muzzin caliber. Jay Bouwmeester is my preferred addition

The Flames will spend an appropriate amount to get a guy that can fill in on the 3rd pairing for 8-10 minutes a night if needed.

Valimaki and Kylington look like NHL players, but they're both inexperienced. One more add would be nice, but not Muzzin caliber. Jay Bouwmeester is my preferred addition
