This is exactly how I feel. I also give Theo a bit of slack given his background story. I also wonder if Theo is getting in the way of at least a FAF - asking for a full retirement, asking for some sort of financial incentive (he's not done that well in business and missed out on the big paydays).
Has Theo done this or you're just speculating that he has done something like this?
Obviously a racist or a murderer shouldn't be inducted. Be reasonable with your comparisons. You'd be kidding yourself if you think there aren't players with similar demeanor as Theo's that are inducted in the Hall of Fame or had their numbers retired. Again it shouldn't be a personality contest.
It should not be a personality contest. But the management is made up of humans too, and if Fleury has privately behaved with them in a poor manner, not to mention some barbs made publicly, it's not surprising they'd be slow to honour him. When I'm in court I don't call the judge an idiot outside court and then say "but please rule without considering that" even though technically he should.
I still think a lot would have to do with Fleury's demands for such a ceremony.
Well I would hope the organization would want a person who spends their after hockey life travelling around speaking to and helping thousands of sex abuse victims as something they stand for.
I agree, that reflects very well on Theo for sure, it's a fantastic part of his brand and an amazing thing to do.
Bobby Hull is an admitted Nazi apologist who beat his wife, and he's in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Theo Fleury is no patron saint by any means, but to suggest that the Hockey Hall of Fame is made up uniformly of the best of humanity is simply inaccurate. By hockey credentials, Fleury should be in. That's it.

Total speculation based on some factors like his personal financial dealings. His concrete business, music career, fashion line, reality show pilot, etc. haven't done well. His book did well, but who knows what he got from that. Overall, his business pattern is that of trying to make a quick buck from short lived ventures. He's not well off so I would not be surprised if he asked for something from what amounts to a Flames marketing event. And it wouldn't be unfair to do so. The Flames get all the publicity and any extra ticket sales or ad dollars from it.

The criteria to determine which jerseys are retired is already arbitrary, determined solely by the team and not up for outside debate.
If Fleury isn't there, I'm sure the Flames have good reason. Or really any reason, it's up to them to decide what that is.
Your criteria or mine might be different but it simply doesn't matter.
It's all speculation as to why Fleury isn't retired. As a Flames fan.. simply put his number should be up there. More so than any of the current numbers up there. Try finding another team that hasn't honored a player that was or is their all-time scorer. Even Lanny doesn't have half the points that Theo did as a Flame.
Glad it's properly getting retired. Theo's definitely does deserve to get retired and I believe it will be one day. But it makes sense why Jarome's is getting retired first.
Ok Jiri, seriously, what did he say here that isn't correct or stroking his ego? I don't see that at all. If anything I think this proves the point that you just don't like the player because there is nothing bashing anything there at all. Like nothing. This would be like saying Vernon should have his number ripped down because he has said it was harder to be a goalie back then with smaller equipment. You are seriously reaching here.
I am in complete agreement. If this is it, petty and vindictive comes to mind for the Flames not retiring his number.
On the other hand, good on the Flames for doing the rigt thing with Iggy. He was the best of the best.
Steinberg said there may be rumblings that the FAF program is under review and #2 & #30 could be possibly be retired down the road.
#30 is retired unless the "un-retired" it to make it a FaF.
Possibly he meant #25.
Either way, I am not a fan of the Forever A Flame program. I understand the reasoning to prevent so many numbers from being unusable, but let's face it. We've got another 50 years to worry about that, we have to to have as much history as the Leafs or Habs.
