He'll get a slot as a 1st team NHL all star at the end of the season. That's the all star recognition that's important. Not the silly fan-selected all star game appearance.

I think some ppl have forgotten, there is another completely seperate all star selection at season's end. 1st and 2nd team all stars. Thats the real one. He's a lock for that one.

Wasn't this season mostly league selected?

That's for the all star game itself. At the end of the season, the NHL does its 1st and 2nd all star team selections. Its different then the actual all star game, which is simply a marketing event for the host city. Pick a player from each team to be represented.

The actual 1st and 2nd all stars are based on the best players that season. That's the REAL all star selection. If Gio is left off that one, then we can get the pitch forks ready! The all star game selection means nothing.

But based on different factors like a rep for each team and local marketing. The 1st and 2nd All Star Team is based purely on play. It could conceivable be all one team. In fact, pretty sure the first All-star Team is Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm, Gio, Brodie and Rittich. Tkachuk gets snubbed to the second All-Star Team.

Seriously, if the season ended now, you'd see Gaudreau and Gio on the 1st AST.

I think in the skills competition at the All Star Game. I think McInnis was more consistent though and more accurate.

McInnis was definitely not accurate when he first came into the leagues but that changed by his third year.

I think it was McInnis who lined up a wide open slapshot on Richard Brodeur in Vancouver and exploded his mask.

I still think that Kevin Lavalee (Sp?) had a bigger shot then Al, he was scoring from the neutral zone. He just wasn't accurate at all, I think there was a game where he hit a bunch of fans sitting behind the net.

I think it was Liut. I recall him, as a rookie I think, shooting from outside the blueline, hitting Liut in the mask, the mask splits, Liut crumbles and the puck rolls into the net.

Yup, did some research and found this.
Quote:
MacInnis announced his presence to the league during his rookie season, when he scored on Mike Liut of the St. Louis Blues. MacInnis skated in from the blueline and blasted a shot that cracked Liut’s mask, knocked the goalie down and bounced into the net. The league took notice and started quivering in fear of No. 2’s shot. MacInnis quickly developed a reputation for putting players on the disabled list: In 1999, he injured teammate and goalie Rich Parent during warmups, breaking his protective cup and rupturing a testicle.
Ouch...could not remember the bolded part though.

I found Reggie Lemelin's remarks about McInnis's shot in practice funny.
Quote:
''Usually, he was pretty good about it in practice, and he`d take something off the shot,'' said Reggie Lemelin, the Bruins` goaltender, who absorbed more of MacInnis` shots that he cares to remember in his years with the Flames. ''But if he hadn`t scored in a couple of games, he`d test it just to make sure he wasn`t losing it. The worst mistake you could make would be to stop one or two then. He`d just get madder.''
