For giggles:
To Ottawa: Stone, 2019 1st, 2020 2nd
To Calgary: Duchene (50% retained)
Then in the off-season the Flames dump Frolik.
Duchene - 7.5M per for 7 years (can you do 8 if he’s acquired prior to deadline day?)
Tkachuk - 7.5M per for 8 years
Bennett - 4M per for 6 years (high, but planning for four epic playoff series for him)
Rittich - 1 or 2 years at 3M per
2019/2020:
Gaudreay (6.75) - Monaghan (6.375) - Lindholm (4.85)
Tkachuk (7.5) - Duchene (7.5) - Neal (5.75)
Bennett (4) - Backlund (5.35) - Ryan (3.125)
Mangiapane (.900) - Jankowski (1.675) - Lazar (.700)
UFA (.700)
Giordano (6.75) - Brodie (4.65)
Hanifin (4.95) - Hamonic (3.857)
Valimaki (.894) - Andersson (.755)
Kylington (.730)
Rittich (3.00)
Backup (.900)
Total cap-hit: 83.163
I mean...kinda doable?

We would bleed goals against with Neal on the second line.

I like Duchene about 70% as much as I like Stone, and I really really Stone. Your proposal seems okay, but I could see Ottawa wanting a bit more.
And pending UFAs are so risky. Some of the picks would have to be conditional IMO. I think the Flames would have to add prospect(s) to counterbalance.
I think Mark Stone would be more likely to re-sign here than Duchene would, for many reasons. Plus, having Stone wouldn't leave us with Neal on the second line.

The cap for next season is projected at around $83m, by the way.

Looks good to me. Going to miss Frolik in despite of all the drama surrounding him. I feel he is a good rounded player that can play up and down the lineup and he has great chemistry. Not seeing a scenario where we add an impact player and he stays though. Not feeling Bennett at 4 million either seems high.

No way 4 million for Bennett. He hasn't broke 30 points since his rookie year. I do think he is starting to find his role a bit better but the production isn't there. I think he maybe gets a small raise.

Think Bennett is going to follow the Backlund path tbh. Can see him signing around 3m for two years. Play better both years until he cements a roll as a top 6er. Gets his long term deal then which he makes pay.

I’d pay Bennett $3M just to keep that sweet ass duster around.

I think $2.5 is plenty, maybe high. I don't think Bennett has done enough to warrant a 50% increase in salary.

Everything I have heard indicates Mark Stone loves being in Ottawa and wants to be there. Duchene on the other hand seems like he wants the hell outta there. I think there would be a much better chance of signing Duchene.

Nick Ritchie just held out for 1.4 x 3. He's Bennett's closest comparable in my mind.
He's on an 18 point pace away from line 2. If line 3 continues to heat up he might finish with 30 points at which point maybe he's in the 1.8-2.0 range. A big playoffs maybe gets him in the 2.+ Range.
Janko scored 17 last year and signed for 1.75 as a centre. Bennett's gotta score once every 4 games for the rest of the season to hit that marker which I think is lofty.

Are you just saying that or do you honestly believe that?

I would try and get Bennett signed a bit longer say 5x3. Rather then a 2x2 or so.
I think they try to move Stone or Frolik in the Summer so there will be room.

I just don’t see Bennett signing a long term contract at cheap money. He’ll bet on himself improving and go short term.

If Bennett is willing to sign longer (like 4 years?) I would go up to 2.5 mil.

If he wants too much money, then you trade him and bring in another young guy to replace him. Its when you start paying non core players money is when you start getting into cap trouble. I also understand the Flames haven't done a great job of that with signings like Derek Ryan.
Remember the Hawks trading Byfuglien, Saad, Versteeg, Brouwer...
If Bennett wants over 2.0 mil, see if you can get a late first for him and then ship him out.
