Oh and thank you Edmonton again for picking Puljujarvi over Tkachuk....thanks to Vancouver too.

*If* it happened now it would make sense.

It’s crazy that their fans are actually in support of giving up their 1st overall
If they need a scoring forward, they should do:
Larsson + 2019 first overall for Hall

Hall likely has them on his no trade list.

It will be very hard for the Oilers to make the playoffs now - they can only lose about 14 more games in regulation, the rest of the way.

Which fans are these?
I'm pretty sure no fans want Chiarelli to make another trade.

Chia is not making another trade, as he hasn’t really made the last couple. This is Chia doing the leg work, pleading with teams and begging them to ask players to waive ntc’s. He then has to get Grandmaster Lowe’s approval who is back in the drivers seat as he’s now weaseled back into Katz good books. If these fail, Chia has been retained to take the full blame, as he already is getting blamed by the media which is a tell tale sign of the narrative being created, a tactic Teflon Lowe has perfected for his self preservation for over a decade and a half. .
As Flash and CC have said, this is ownership desperately wanting to make the playoffs to be able sell expiring three year options for tickets. It’s for selling some hope to fans in marketing materials this summer. This warning salvo to the league and to the national press as for being “open for business” is Lowe’s MO, as it certainly hasn’t been Chias.
The conference at the bottom end is crap so there is a window. Put a few 3 game winning streaks together and not lose 3 in a row and you may well make it. It’s also for making McDaivd happy that the attempt is there.
They have no choice but to overpay for their single forward they hope can do what McDavid and Drai haven’t been able to. A forward who will have been blindsided by his team and traded because he doesn’t have an NTC. A forward who has to look no further the Ryan Strome to see how the grass is greener on any other side. A forward who will have the weight of the fan base on him because of the hoopla made around this and the steep price paid.
Just glorious.

Agree with browna, this has Lowe stink all over it.
A weird thing seemed to happen after the oilers drafted mcdavid. They suddenly made over their front office.
I have a feeling the mold that rots that franchise was not properly remediated, and has returned.
Orr is in town to let the landlord know his client isn't going to remain in the house until the mold is remediated, if it isn't soon, he's out of there.

Assuming the proposed package is being moved to a team rebuilding
Quote:
To me that sounds like either goalie Cam Talbot or Mikko Koskinen, plus a first rounder, plus Kailer Yamamoto or Tyler Benson or Cameron Hebig on the move, or maybe even Jesse Puljujarvi depending on the reputation of the player coming in return.
|
Why on earth does a team like St.Louis, Ottawa etc want either goalie?? Newsflash! teams missing the playoffs have no need for your UFA bound goalies, they have no value to teams out of the playoffs. On top of that, Kailer & Puljujarvi are close to worthless, Benson is a walking band-aid and who the heck is Cameron Hebig??
The only thing that holds value is that un-tainted soon to be top5 pick as the Oilers has not ruined it yet

Exactly. Katz had a moment of clairity, but didn’t finish the job so as to keep a collection of old Oilers around. Chia and McLellan probably had it as terms of their employment, given the widely known reputation of Lowe.
But they knew if he was still around it was a matter of time before he and his ego found his way back. Lowe bided his time in the shadows with a honorary title. Must have been excruciating for his ego to see the team make the playoffs without him to take the glory.
As soon as some rough water hit (that Lowe ultimately had created in his tenure, cap problems, Chia having inability to find trading partners for players because the way Lowe soiled the reputation) when the year after the playoffs didn’t go so hot, he set his plan back in motion, slowly regained the confidence of Katz as an advisor, and started to undermine the guy who took his job. It’s now, and may have been for most of this year and offseason, in full effect. Chia, like Tambelleni, will be kept to shoulder all of the blame and abuse from fans and media so that Lowe can come in (back) as the saviour.
Hitchcock will be gone, and subtly blamed for pushing McDavid too hard in this stretch. Nicholson will wake from his nap long enough to announce he’s moving on. Lowe will regain the throne, have his puppet McTavish to do the hard work and take the blame, as well as hiring some other puppet GM and or recycled coach who will be McDavid approved.

I wonder if Lowe's big ego is massive enough to use his "I think I know a little bit about winning, if there's ever a concern!” line on Orr, it amuses me thinking of it.
