Check out the TSN highlights of the Oiler's skills competition.
https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/youth-p...tition~1585539
Guess they don't have many skills to showcase?

Terry Jones with a piece out already on how sick McDavid is. Goes out of his way to say "he is in bed". Makes no mention of the Tchykowski tweet of him in a car.

Supposedly a 1 min 13 second highlight clip of Oiler's skills competition starts off with 39 seconds of McDavid highlights who wasn't even there...
Then doesn't show any actual Edmonton Oilers at the skills competition which is accurate and fair reporting.

Does anyone really care if he misses the skills competition if he's sick? Seems like an easy opportunity to keep him at home and rest, this is a non-essential activity if he legitimately is suffering from illness.
Besides, they have Draisatl and eight Giordanos to please the Coiler fans all day long.

Kid: Why isn't McDavid here?
Dad: He's resting son. He deserves a break.
Kid: It's just a skills competition though.
Dad: I don't know. Why don't you watch some of his teammates instead?
Kid: I would, but Draisaitl is invisible when 97 isn't on the ice, Nurse is only good at being a d-bag, Lucic should have retired last year, and the blocked shot competition is just dumb.
Dad: I know son, I know.
- In Edmonton yesterday, probably

Well there was this gem in there:
Quote:
Well, the first event was the ‘Fastest Skater’ competition. There was perhaps a chance somebody might notice.
McDavid recorded a 13.454 in the event last year.
Zack Kassian (15.062), Jesse Puljujarvi (14.688), Milan Lucic (15.008), Ryan Spooner (14.445), Ty Rattie (14.988) and Tobias Rieder (14.496) were entered.
|
They put Lucic and Kassian in a Fastest Skater contest?

In Edmonton, it is called the "No Skill Competition".

I guess it depends on if it is legitimate and shows what kind of culture they have. Gaurdreau, Monahan and Bouma got suspended a game for showing up late to a practice. I think a skill event which, they charge decent amount of money for, is above practice IMO.

I'm more surprised that Lucic beat someone. Kassian is No good and should feel shame.

Oh man it is such a circus up there. One thing after another. I love it. Guess he won't be playing tonight because he's bedridden, ya right.

If you think about it, Connor not being there really gives the Coiler fans a look at just how crappy their team and their depth is; a skill competition "for the rest of them" should highlight to everyone watching that E=NG.

Are they doing an ironic hipster version of the skills competition this year?

And the overall winner of this years skills competition is:
Hunter!
But McDavid still won the Fastest Skater contest - he was so fast this year we didn't even see him and he skated right out the door.

So the pic evidence is kinda thin, I agree. But other factors: No one else has gotten sick from this flu that's been bugging him for a while? He's continuing to play games and practice, risking infection of other guys? Does that seem normal?
On HFOil it was funny - they talk about him not being the kind of person who'd let down the kids. Frankly, has anyone seen enough of this guy off ice to determine if he's nice, a dick or in between? I mean over and above being bog standard OK with fans at events.

I think the twitter link doesn't work any more. But it showed McD in his car with his GF supposedly on the day of the competition. It's weak because the date is not provable and because being too sick to be in the ice doesn't necessarily mean too sick to go to the store or the doctor or something (though he was driving, so there's that).

I grabbed a screenshot last night. Figured the OBC probably reached out to him and told him to take it down.

Edmonton skills competition... McDavid doing crossovers around a faceoff circle, and the rest of the time lined up at a row of ATM's showing how fast they can cash their pay-cheques.
Lucic wins easily!
