I really liked the effort from all tonight. Even smith, despite still being terrified whenever there’s a shot against he did actually make 2 very nice saves tonight that went beyond routine. I still don’t like his positioning or rebound control but he put in a quality start by his standards.
I’m not bashing him. Just saying we can’t be annoiting him as revived or anything. The yotes barely tested us all night.
Loved seeing Benny and Neal get on the board, and chuckle is playing great. A great night to rest the top line a little as they’ve been ridden pretty hard so far
And if you want to find the ATL easily click on the replies # of posts on main fire on ice forum thread list and scroll to Gaskal. It will take you to where you want to go

I do agree that we should be cautious in announcing Smith is back, however, I disagree when you say that Smith was barely tested all night.
In the first period, Smith made that incredible pose to pose save on the yotes first powerplay and that glove save from the high slot. In the second period the yotes IMO hemmed the flames in their own zone in the middle section peppering Smith with shots. If not for Smith, I could see the yotes scoring 3-4 goals.

Coyotes are paying Mike Smith more than Adin Hill for this game.

MIIIIIIIIKE SMIIIIIIIIIIIITH!!!

Hey Smith if you could please play like you did for us post-2012 tonight, that’d be dope.
Quote:
Smith can have hotstreaks, basically the entire 11-12 seasons was a hotstreak for him. Imo, he has never played as good as that season since.
And just the dumb #### he does. Passes up the middle of the ice and trying to handle the puck like he’s Roy or Brodeur and then gives the puck up and leads to an easy goal or opportunity.

If they start Smitty and questionable goal committee chairman Garland plays, we may win!
Quote:
Of course, Smith looks sharp against us.

Matt McConnell just called Hill "Smith"

"He's stopped by SMITH, I mean Hill.."

Hopefully we chase Smith out of the net.

I hope we score 500 goals on Mike Smith.

Expecting an ugly blowout loss. Calgary is on fire and are dominant on O and D.
Quote:
Getting a point tonight would be a feat – Flames are very tough right now.
I posed the question before the NYR about personnel or system issues contributing to lack of scoring. I’m not sure what 3-0-1 with more significant injuries piling up says about that?
Hill needs to have more than a solid game tonight, but I believe the boys can at least put themselves in position to pick up point(s) tonight.

Calgary is on fire

Funny if you go over to the Calgary thread they don't think so, even with 4 wins in a row.
They've won some games but seem to be giving up a lot of goals lately.
Quote:
I'd be very surprised if we managed any points out of this one.
.. so surprise me.
Quote:
I like Don Maloney the person. Great Guy happy he's had success in Calgary

####ing christ the Flames first line is so dominant in the offensive and neutral zone

I don't think we're playing all that badly but we dont' have an official shot yet.

10 minutes in
And still no shots. Come on boys.

Swear to ####ing god...
Can we hit the god damn net instead of missing a mile wide every time?

Here comes the melt down.

Hill caught leaning at first base.

Welp, we were doing alright for 17 minutes but it's painfully obvious how much better Calgary are and they're starting to get results.

Wasn't it one of the flames who injured Chychrun's knee on a dirty hit from behind last year?
Quote:
YES. I was just realizing that a few minutes ago too. I think it was Frolik, if i'm not mistaken.
Quote:
Obligatory #### Michael Frolik.
Quote:
Why the #### does Calgary like injuring Chychrun? The #### did he do?
Quote:
RIP Chychrun.
We should just shut him down anyway even if he's not hurt so he's healthy next year.
Tkachuk crashing the net
Quote:
Too many no look passes where nobody’s there. Too many defensive assignments left uncovered. We’re getting pushed around.
The worst is Keller just dogging it off the puck. I want to freaking taze the guy! You’re an all-star, move your ass!
Quote:
Hey Flames want the puck? Okay - Everyone on the last shift.

Or not....
Quote:
What a joke this team is
Quote:
Yeeeeeup. Should probably just turn it off now.
Quote:
I didn't expect us to be anywhere close against Calgary, they are one of the best teams in the league and we're missing 1/2 of our guys. C'mon, we got lucky against Tampa and everything was going in. All I want to see is more effort, and someone win a battle and make a play.
Now, let's shut them out in the 3rd period and get at least 1 more goal to make it a respectable 4-2.

What do you know, gogos guy scored again. Man I would love to see him moved.

Pathetic
There’s hardly any DEFENSE by the Coyotes. Calgary is able to shoot at will…a veritable shooting gallery. Hard to watch.

Holy #### lmao.

Goligoski and his -4 is certainly going to win him a green jacket.
Ship him the **** out next week. We don’t need him.

Yeah the Coyotes goal differential is taking a big hit tonight.

We're not doing Hill any favors tonight.

We don’t deserve to win tonight. Poor passing and missed assignments.

Can't be mad. 4 out of 6 points on an all division road trip and losing at a place that's hard to win is good outcome all in all.

Pretty much an expected scoreline when an AHL roster comes up against the top of the West. I ain't even mad.

We were due for a game like this.

Calgary is #1 in the league in third period performance. 16-1 when leading after two . Six come from behind wins (five were at home). +37 goal differential.

Hill was awful, as was our defense. I couldn’t believe Calgsry’s Puck possession time. Night and day compared to yesterday.

Just gotta not suck next game.

Sucks that Hill got shelled and most of it wasn't his fault.
Like Nash said If the Yotes can stay somewhere in the fight to the ASB/Bye and get Grabner, Richardson and Dvo bsck they could do some damage in February and March

No points for Kucherov tonight. Hopefully the start of a 10 game pointless streak.
If life is fair, Gaudrat gets no points tonight either.
Really hoping for McDavid to put together a 5+ point night one of these games to jump in front of everyone and reel in Kuch.

Flames toying with the Kai-Oats.
Once again showing just how despicable the Oilers' roster is.

So the yotes looked at their back to back and said.."we will play the Oilers like its the finals and win.....nvm calgary they are a good team."
Quote:
We should offer sheet Tkachuk
Quote:
We have no cap space...
Also I wonder if we could offer cheet anyone. We suck pretty bad.
Quote:
Coaching probably helps.
Also not surprised at all that the Coyotes are getting mangled by the Flames. It really just shows you the gap.
Hell even the Canucks managed to take out the Panthers easily.
Quote:
Canucks hammered, absolutely annihilated the same Florida club we had loads of trouble with just days ago, nearly losing to them.
Flames beating up the Yotes, putting boots to them.
Really underscores how bad the Oilers are. Just days ago people are posting up our schedule against "weak" teams. Which team (any) is actually weaker than us? We got slaughtered by LA Kings. Without all world performances from McD, Drai, Nuge this season this club is last in the league by a mile.
Quote:
Is it just me or does it seem like they have an awful lot of games where they play a team on the 2nd of a back to back after playing us?
Quote:
It's you. The Oilers get to play the team on the end of a back-to-back 6 more times than the Flames. The Flames also play 'tired' games 2 more times than we do. There are no excuses...we're that bad.
Quote:
Yup. In fact, the Oilers play the most teams on the second half of a back-to-back in the entire league and it's not close.
Quote:
Sickens me that the Flames are the 2nd best team in the league, while we have been in the bottom half of the league for decades.
Quote:
That summer trade with the Canes really changed that team. Slotted players appropriately for sure. If they get the goaltending they are gonna do some damage.
