Would Schenn for Kylington & Czarnik or a pick (not first) make sense?
Flames could head into the playoffs looking like:
Gaudreu-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuck-Schenn-Bennett/Neal
Frolik-Backlund-Bennett/Neal
Hathaway-Ryan-Jankowski/....
Gio-Brodie
Hanafin-Hamonic
Valamaki/LHD depth-Anderson

I agree the Flames have a wealth of defensive prospects. And since we have 3 in Valkimaki, Andersson and Kylington, they could all fetch a pretty penny rather than a forward prospect.
I really love Valimaki and Andersson's gameplay and steps they've made this year, leaving Kylington as the last man in that category.
If he was a part of a bigger trade, I wouldn't mind.

Hanaffin is always overlooked - as he is only 21 years old.

People keep bringing up schenn but one of reasons the flames are successful (versus past seasons) is they are einnibg faceoffs. Schenn is not good on draws.

Silfverberg would be an interesting pickup... very good skaker, defensively responsible. 12 g and 19 points at the halfway mark... 41 points in 57 playoff games with anaheim... Expiring contract.

If you throw out tkachuk-schenn-bennett you can get benny to take the draws.

Might just be me (as I can't be bothered to read back through 300+ pages!) but I really don't like the idea of flipping a really good, promising young defenceman just because he's a 'spare'. They don't come easy or along very often, and we have 3 of them, drafted by us. Before you even think about flipping someone like Kylington, you look at who else you could move out (whether it be Hamonic or Brodie or hell, even Gio in a couple of years) first and what return they'd garner (probably similar, or likely more depending on what factors you take into consideration).
Kylington is only going to get better, and if we only had him and not Valimaki or Andersson, we wouldn't even be considering trading Kylington.

Sure, but with Hanifin, no matter what you're going to be losing one of these guys if they do meet expectations because of the expansion. Think it throws a bit of a wrench in the normal thought process of keeping good young defenders when really they don't have much of an option to do so.
Could go the 8 skater route, but at this point it's hard to argue that the potential of these players will be more than someone like Backlund or really even Brodie who could easily be re-signed.

Keep a close eye on those Ducks...
We're told Jakob Silfverberg is likely next to be moved out of Anaheim.

Saturday evening and into the wee hours, Pittsburgh Hockey Now spoke with sources around the league. One name which is drawing mixed signals is Derick Brassard.
On the Penguins side, it now appears likely Brassard will not be a Penguin beyond the trade deadline. Multiple sources confirmed the Penguins have moved from “could” deal Brassard to expecting to deal the center.
Previous Brassard suitors, Colorado and Winnipeg eyed the Penguins forlorn center again this season. However, sources familiar with the thinking of both teams were unable to verify continued interest.

Pretty attractive rental as far as rentals go.

I don't believe so.
More like Bob Murray doing what he can from the GM spot to spark a change.
This club is still very much right there for a PO spot.
Saw a graphic yesterday that the Ducks have 100 more man games lost to injury than the second place team on the list....which is mind boggling.
Im sure Murray loathes the idea of making a coaching change mid-season so he is trying to do something else. Doubtful it works and i think it leads to the inevitable.....the return of Dallas Eakins behind the bench of a Pacific division team.

I think he will have a decent amount of interest.
He plays center. His full season cap hit is only $3 million because Vegas retained $2 million.
He is only being paid $1 million in base salary because most of his salary this season was already paid out in a signing bonus. If acquired at the deadline he will be only owed around $130k (again thanks to Vegas retention).
Could be a good rental for a budget team that needs center depth badly.

Expensive? He makes less than Derek Ryan.
He has size, which this club could use some more of for a playoff run IMO, but can he still move well enough? Dont know.
I was wondering if Zuccarello might not be a nice fit in Calgary if they are going pure rental. Then again he actually makes the team smaller overall...which is hard to do.

I forgot that Vegas did that. But $3M is still a fair bit for depth. I think Ryan makes a lot for what he brings, too - do we need two guys like that? As for size, he's 6'1", 200 which is pretty darn average, if that. Moreover, what do we do with him? Replace Jankowski?
I'd rather rent Silfverberg. I'd like to re-sign him too, if space could be made.

The issue with the Flames picking up a rental is that they do not have much capital to send the other way. My guess would be a minor adjustment at a low cost ( low cost, low risk).

My thoughts on ANY F they bring in is to firm up the
Mangiapane/Czarnik/whomever spot...hence why he would make the club bigger and a Zuccarello would make them smaller.
and maybe even allow Neal a 4th line role or press box duty in spots? (only somewhat joking)
Also...by the time the PO roll around its likely the club will have some injuries to deal with and there could be spots open for all mentioned thus far.
He may not be the optimal option, but he's certainly one option.
Would Stone for Brassard work for both clubs assuming Stone is back and playing by the end of Feb?
Or is Stone the exact depth guy you want going into a playoff run you think you should go somewhat deep in?
