Good. He can keep his focus on the Conn Smythe instead.

The break will be a benefit to Giordano and the Flames.

I don't think the All-Star game takes much from a player really. This is a extremely casual event. It's not like players that go to All-Star games suffer in the games after.

Gio not going is a snub, but the NHL All-Star doesn't have any real prestige anyway compared to other leagues.

He’s a good player, but also a case that there is literally no one else to vote for on Edmonton so all those fans voted as a block.

NHL is no good. But Gio can take a break and focus on the Flames game. I was going to get a Gio ASG jersey had he got voted in.

Actually you could only vote one person from each team in this stage, so he was the only option for Edmonton.

But this event is going to be the most significant one for the Oilers this season, so they pressed hard to get two Oilers in there.

Going to a work party is still work.

Spending 3 days laying on a beach with your wife > going to a two day company retreat.

Draisaitl? OK.

At least that means he will likely be paired with McDavid 3 on 3 and I won't have to watch a McDavid-Gaudreau combo. Give Johnny Pettersson or even Keller.

It gives him an opportunity to have a mental and physical break with his family for a few days, away from hockey. That is a major benefit.

I'd say goalies can suffer. Players - it depends. I think Johnny thrives in them, and his play gets better because he becomes even more confident. It also keeps young guys like him from sitting on a beach and eating/drinking too much junk. Gio - I'm sure his body could use a break. He's older and more physical and he can get a holiday - plus he's the last guy I think would overindulge on a holiday.

I'm ok with this. We need Gio to rest up so he can beast in the playoffs. I have a feeling Gio's going to be super motivated come playoff time, and he's going to elevate it to another gear.

There was also a big (Toronto) push to vote in Reilly, but Skinner is totally deserving.

2 Oilers going and 1 Flame........lol, it's just so ridiculous.

Not often you have an ASG without the best d-man in the league going.

Skinner is definitely deserving but he must’ve been getting the “Anybody but Toronto” votes to beat out Reilly. Happy for him!

I purposely didn't vote for Gio to go. I'd much rather he get more rest for what is sure to be an intense and demanding remainder of the season and hopefully a long playoffs.
