That team isn’t going 22-13-6 even if they win tonight. They are done.
Yeah, I know that, but those are not the glasses that the OBC view the team through. They still cling desperately to the faint hope of somehow squeezing into the playoffs, hence a loss tonight could be a big enough disappointment to force their hand. I just hope they leave Chiarelli alone. I believe he still has a few terrible decisions left on the very tail end of his career as a GM in the NHL.

I will never understand why they traded Gagner and Cogliano. The dunces that run the circus have no idea how to evaluate talent.

Gagner? He’s a borderline NHler

McTavish back in as GM only means, like the first time after Tambelleni was fired, that Lowe truly has regained the full control of the roster and hockey operations he lost when Chia and T Mac got on.

As it was then, Lowe needs a puppet as the face of the position, to deflect direct criticism away from him.

For some reason I was thinking Gagner, but I really meant Jarret Stoll.

Having said that Edmonton could've used Gagner.

I would have to question how devotion of any Flames fan that would shed a tear for the Oilers and their fans. Maybe some of you are too young to know what it was like in the 80's but I remember and will never, ever, ever forget. Remember how obnoxious Canucks fans were last decade when they were good? Multiply that by a scale of 100 as there was zero class or humility from that fan base. In fact they were extremely spiteful as the odd time the Flames would actually beat the Oilers in the 80's I would be challenged to fights the next day from multiple Oilers fans at school. They were merciless. Fortunately over the course of decades what comes around goes around and this is payback and there will never be a depth so low for that organization that I will have a shred of empathy for that fanbase.

Agreed, he is nothing special. Cogliano has had a pretty good career and is a useful player, that was a mistake

Just curious, is there a team that:

A. He would accept a trade to?
B. Has wealth of talent that they can part with and remain a contender?
C. Has players willing to move from a contender to Edmonton?
D. Has cap room to absorb a $12 mill season hit?

I just see way too many factors here to have a decent trade take place. The only way McDavid is traded is if he goes public with a demand and/or doesn’t report. Even then Katz probably would veto.

They’ll never trade McDavid, so they best burn it down and rebuild around him and hope 4 seasons from now things start to turn around with patience.

McDavid will then move on after this contract is done. Only way I see it playing out.

I just want to say (again), after watching part of last night's game - my wife's idea, no less! - that I LOVE the title of this thread...it makes me chuckle every time I see it: Chia•den•freu•de!

So, thanks for that once more topfiverecords.

You mean the guy who was previously a Head Coach and was deemed so incapable by one of the worst teams in the League that instead of stepping in for McLellan they hauled a Dinosaur out of retirement instead?

That might be the only move these idiots actually got right. Which is a shame. I'd love to see Ol' Gul coaching this team.

"Dont worry boys, if we stick with it the wins will come!"

And they dont even have much of a choice! Its like this team was purpose-built for Gully.

This is probably the wrong thread to start this discussion but starting a new serious thread on the Oilers would feel dirty.... I’m interested in opinions on how one might turn the Oilers around. Start by assuming all the management is replaced by competent people, are there any set of moves that could fix this mess? I would have no idea where to start but it seems like a great challenge for an armchair GM.
