I get the impression (and yes this is totally speculative) that Bennett is pissy because he isn't getting the ice time. He doesn't produce at the NHL level the way he wants to and he shifts some of that blame onto the organization and coach due to usage.
Look at his body language at the end of the Detroit game when he got benched. I would not at all be surprised to hear Bennett has asked for a trade / wants out, because he knows he won't be given the opportunity hear to get the kind of minutes to become a star and thus get $$$$$.
Total random ass guessing though, admittedly.

Calgary is what? Third overall?
There's tons of room for internal improvement;
Hanifin and Lindholm and Ryan have only played half a year with their new team mates
Andersson and Kylington have played less than that in the NHL
Neal still has a chance, albeit dropping by the day, of getting back to his career SV%
Vilimaki could still be back as with stone (for depth)
Ideally, you'd get a back up goalie... maybe a bottom six winger to supplant Neal's role... messing with team chemistry with the trades some are suggesting seems like a bad idea...
its a road calgary has gone down before with major adds like Stuart and Jokinen and it didn't actually pan out...
i'd much rather prefer smaller deals and keeping picks as opposed to major deals that may or may not help a team already top five in the NHL standings.

Simmonds is a bit over valued by many. Hes a 30 yr old UFA on the decline that will be nothing but a rental to a contending team, then cash in on a low cap team in the summer. I doubt too many teams offer more than my original post, but we will see.

I just always assumed he was just a grumpy person, at least when he was playing hockey. He’s always looked pissy to me. Just guessing too though.
But I think back to that unreal goal he scored, then they show Jankowski on the bench telling Bennett “I was wide open back door” and laughing. Bennett doesn’t look too amused haha.

He's pretty overrated for sure. A nice to have player but not a must have player.

Maybe he can play backup for us then, he sure as hell is not doing anything as a forward.

Simmonds was pretty invisible tonight. If we’re going to trade a 1st, I’d like to pick up a legitimate game breaker who can create plays out of nothing. If the team is #1 in the west by the TDL, I’d absolutely pull the trigger. We don’t have a lot of picks to begin with, but a #27-#31 pick doesn’t excite me either.
How often are we ever in this situation? Go all in and go for broke.

Yeah I dont want the 1st moved for an aging rental.
Package it up for another young(ish) core piece, that's fine. Not for a rental though.

Only way I’m cool with trading a 1st, or hell - multiple 1st in a different trades - is if we get pieces that are here for years.
Brayden Schenn? Yup, I’d include a 1st.
Robin Lehner with an extension +? Yup. I’d include a 1st

To think that Lehner went unsigned as long as he did this past summer and was had for a little over a million.

I just don't see Treliving trading our 1st round pick by the deadline this year.
Rittich is becoming a legitimate starter goalie and no backup is ever worth a first-rounder, unless your starter is hurt. Smith is still serviceable as a back-up. I don't even think he's gonna go after the big name goalies, like Bobrovsky or Varlamov anymore, since BSD is playing so well.
Who else could be worth a 1st rounder that we need and can afford?

Lehner and Smith tandem would have been the most aggressive goaltending duo in the league by a mile!

That brings up a good point. Had the Flames grabbed Lehner it would be as Smith's backup and we wouldn't have seen Rittich until much later if at all this year.
But now, at this point in the season an overpay could be worth it.

Problem there is the Islanders are very much in it so if they are selling it will be late in the game (right at TDL) if at all
I didn't realize the Islanders were still that close.

Islanders would be stupid to be sellers. Their fan base has suffered enough. They need to try and have a playoff run

If islanders won all their games in hand they would be tied with Calgary
Highly doubt they are sellers

To Calgary:
Mark Stone (sign for 7.0 Mil)
To Ottawa:
James Neal
1st 2019
Dillon Dube
Olivier Kylington
Then,
To Calgary:
3rd Round Pick 2019
5th Round Pick 2019
To Random Team:
Michael Frolik
Then,
To Detroit:
Andrew Mangiapane
3rd Round Pick 2019
To Calgary:
Niklas Kronwall
Then,
To Calgary:
Curtis McElhinney
To Carolina:
Mike Smith
5th Round Pick 2019
Then,
Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Stone
Bennett-Jankowski-Frolik
Hathaway-Ryan-Czarnik
Giordano-Brodie
Hanifin-Hamonic
Andersson-Stone
Rittich
McElhinney
Flames lose youth but Mark Stone would be a superstar addition to the team. I think it would be worth it. A guy like Mangiapane hasnt done much.
Frolik would be perfect on the third line.. so maybe that can be done in the off-season to re-coup some picks. You can also trade Stone in the off-season to make the cap work comfortably.
Most of these won't happen (probably all) but at least I got my random trade itch out of the way.

We don't need to trade a 1st, BT is a wizard and will get us a solid backup for a song.
