Is this true ? Usually value of home is higher than city assessment ?

If you check the map view of the assessment you can see some green dots when zoomed in. Then you can compare sales price with assessment value. From my cursory look, it seemed like the suburbs had higher assessed values vs sales prices, and inner city had the opposite.

Not necessarily. Assessed values are useful as a general gauge, but nothing else. I've seen many appraisals come in lower than assessed values.

Is there an easy way to see previous years assessed values for a residence?

I don't think so. Maybe for privacy of information? Let me know if you find out though.

I think you only see the previous year of any property if you're logged in to the home owners portal.

I know you can see the previous year's assessment in the top right when you log in and select your house, but I'm not sure you can get any more info than that.

I was so confused how everyone's property was up so much until I realized those posts are from last year.
You can look up any property here:
https://assessmentsearch.calgary.ca/externallogin.aspx
Ours was down about 3%.
If you sign up for a registered account, then you can see the full details for any property in the city, including the quality rating, basement living space, lot size, etc..

Agreed it’s not against the law to start new threads is it?
So confused at first haha
Anyway there should not be a property in the city that goes up in my opinion.

There have been a couple of news articles on the 2019 property values in Cowtown already.
Something's odd with the residential figures, which supposedly reflect only very small drops in value (other than for condos), with massive falls for downtown commercial real estate. Given the state of the economy, unemployment at about 8% in the city, the huge number of properties on the market, and rising interest rates, I can't fathom how the numbers don't look much worse.

Don't they know it isn't even finished yet? That should bump it down to around 7% or so.

Building permit is closed, so they consider it finished. And it is more finished than most garages at this point...I agree though, they should definitely drop my assessment! I've had it pretty good compared to the neighbourhood, though, it was probably under by $20k or so for the past several years.

Mine appears to have gone up a little over 10% with no changes to the property. My assessed value last year reflected my purchase and build price very closely (build finished 1.5 years ago) and a flat to down market this doesn't seem to make a ton of sense.
Time to do some research to see if an appeal makes sense or if my gut feeling is wrong.
