It's not how many he has, it's how many he SHOULD have. Smith has gassed five games. His record should be five wins better, because the team has given him massive support that any other team in the NHL would kill for. There is no defense for Smith. I'm shocked it took people this long to come around.

Wins area team stat. A small handful of his wins he's been really good, some like yesterday passable, but at least half of his starts he's been bad. If your backup goaltender is a 50/50 proposition to stink it up every start he's just not good enough.

I've been saying this for months but...
Just sayin'. Dude looks like he's headed towards retirement. Bet no one is willing to lend his services again. And he's a calming presence for Big Save Dave. And everyone here seems to dislike Sigalet. And he seems to like Calgary the city.

I honestly believe minor league goaltenders could out perform Smith right now. Guy faces some of the fewest shots per game of any goalie in the league and yet is right at the bottom in sv%.
Ottawa just picked up Anders Nilsson. Surely he can easily be had. His sv% is consideribly better which sadly isn’t very good anyway. But honestly, any cheap option would be an improvement. To continually trot Smith out right now is pure insanity. Management needs to show some killer instinct themselves. Enough with the stubborness.

Smith will clear waivers. Send him down. Give Gilles some run, if he sucks bring up someone else. Vegas went through a ton of goalies last season and we’re fine. If rittich is hurt we should just get the youth in there.
That should send a message to Neal too.

If Smith has set the bar as to what we're looking for, as evidenced by his continued starts (ie. 2 terrible goals a game), then I truly believe that we cannot do worse than that with literally any goalie, including Gillies, Parsons, and Schneider.

A team well out of the playoff picture come trade deadline should be calling the flames and licking their chops over the potential of acquiring Smith. Pretty much can guarantee a team the highest chance at 1st overall.

No thank you. Don't want him ruining Rittich.
I am not of the belief that just because someone is a nice guy that you retain his services by finding him a job in the organization.
We don't need a bunch of nice guys. Nice guys finish last too many times.

The rest of the team is absolutely peaking at the right time. This could be career best seasons for Johnny, Monahan, Gio, Tkachuk, Lindholm, and Rittich.
The Flames can't afford to let this season go to waste, it could be the best shot they have for the foreseeable future with this core. Not only has Smith completely lost the plot, it's unwise to rely on a fairly untested G in Rittich to carry a workload he's never been close to carrying in his career.
See what Gillies can do for now and lose a trade for a league average goalie. The team is scoring at will, we don't need Price in his prime, we just need someone who can "make a ####ing save".

He won his last game before tonight. It seems to me that is precisely what I suggested we could expect from him: a win here, a loss there.

Flames have one NHL-level goalie in their system. One. If he's hurt, they have zero.
Treliving better be beating the bushes for every backup in the league. Lehner. Kuemper. Anyone.

I'm ready for McElhinney or Howard. We just need league average goaltending with this amount of firepower.

So would you start Smith in a playoff game?

Lesson 1: Shootouts/Penalty Shots
- wave your arms around in the air at the player to startle him
- then settle in to the pose from the “In The Crease” painting by Ken Danby

I’d argue they won that game in spite of him. He didn’t even give himself a chance to make a save on any three of those goals.
It’s pretty clear they need to make a move sooner than later.
