Carolina isn't trading their captain.

McElhinney makes a lot of sense for a goalie to go after as a rental. Not sure the Hurricanes will want to help the Flames after they took them to the cleaners in the deal during the summer.

Fan overtime trade idea:

Neal
Smith

Craig Anderson
Bobby Ryan

Has some merit.

Isn’t Anderson hurt (concussion)?

I'd do it. Not sure Ottawa would

Yes. I think presumption is when he is back healthy.

Can they trade a player they picked up on waivers with waiving him again first?

Ryan’s and Neal’s money is about the same in total with Neal making less per year but with an extra year.

Anderson on the hook for another year after this.

So what’s in this for Ottawa? Those aren’t players they want. They just save a year of Anderson’s salary but he actually has value in a trade beyond salary dump?

I’d still rather have Neal than Ryan especially in a playoff grind. Besides Bobby Ryan’s hand breaks every other month. And Craig Anderson has not looked good at all this year either.

If you try and trade a player you claimed off waivers in the same season, you must first offer him to anyone that put a claim on him when he was originally claimed.

If the other teams that put in a claim no longer want the player or no one else put a claim in on him, you are free to trade him without any restrictions. Otherwise he goes to another team that put a claim on him for just the waiver fee.

I don't see why not. They've done it before, he's UFA at the end of the season and 37 years old. He's the absolute perfect rental piece for a team that wants some assets. I will be surprised if they don't trade him.

GMs will be asking for the 3 time cup champions services come February if they aren't already.

Why would that rule be in place? That seems silly that they took a gamble on a waiver wire and then could trade him for whatever value you want. Unless it’s to stop a rival from placing a claim and then trading the player for value.

That's what I thought, thanks. I imagine a few teams put in claims but who knows.

Carolina will most definitely be trading Ferland this deadline as they can't afford to lose him for nothing and likely aren't keen to pay him a 4M+ UFA salary prior to July 1.

Whether or not they trade Ferland to Calgary depends on if Treliving offers the most assets in return. It's out of division, out of conference so that's in our favour.

Any chance they’ll be asking for 3 time cup finals services come February?

What is with Philly and goalies?

McKenna isn't even a mediocre NHL player. What are they trying to accomplish?
