Lindholm should have just shot that. Waste of a chance.

No actual effort for the team.
Until they actually decide to show up, it's going to be a long stretch of frustration. Only 3 games this month against good teams.

The Flames are already on a slide. They have three wins in their last six games.

Why doesn't Backlund feed the middle there?

the second goal, i think smith should have been more aggressive on the pass in, which is arguable i suppose. Brodie did a bad job of controlling the winger's stick... after that it was just a lucky bounce off the incoming detroit player.
nothing egregious like other goals that Smith has let in and gets grief for.
that said, Calgary is in a hole now, and Smith needs to be able to make a few big stops to hold the fort... the team in front of him really needs to step it up

They sure do, and he sure does!

Little more urgency to start the second.

That's fine.
However, based on his overall play this year, do you have confidence he will make enough key saves to allow the Flames back into this game regardless of how the team plays in front of him? Do you feel Smith has the ability to steal a game at this point in his career?
I don't, and I wonder what his team thinks heading into the room down 2-0.

The first goal was a high percentage scoring opportunity after a defensive breakdown. Your goalie should hopefully stop 50% or more of those, but you can't fault them for one when it is basically a coin flip. It's fair to say that he didn't bail the team out on that one, but it's unfair to blame him for that goal.
The second goal was a fluke. It happens to every goalie.

This game is seriously lacking in powerplays.

Lots of half assed stick play out there. Pucks jumping in front of players who aren't willing to give that extra step.

This is the game thread, though, not a discussion of Smith overall this year. And yes, the Flames can come back.

Great setup by Bennett, too bad Janko shot it wide.
