well the red wings put up .9 expected goals and period and smith let in 2... so theoretically a league average starter would have saved one. not that it matters, the flames started well but derailed as the period went on, somehow making the red wings look strong and fast, and gifting goals to plugs like helm and de la rose. just gross.
not even expecting a point here anymore, just hoping for a better effort the rest of the game. i wish this team were less predictable for which teams they don't show up against. it's boring losing to the same bottom feeders over and over again

I will wager a lot of posters saying the team plays differently in front of Smith are also the ones who talk about how players like Neal makes millions and need to just play better and not have about situation, etc.

Well he hasnt allowed a wrister from the blueline yet.. is that now the standard for him? He hasnt made too many hard saves this game while Howard has. Getting tired of Smith getting beat by the other goalie.
Hopefully it changes in the 2nd and 3rd.

IMO, Smith stops the 4th(?) goal that was passed right through Rittich's crease against SJ.
It's just fantasy

Just dipped a toe in the GT to see if it was crapping all over Smith. Yup.
Once again people can’t distinguish between what a goalie should and shouldn’t stop.
And good comic relief by Shannon.

Flames need to stop playing down to their opponents level they do it too often against scrub teams, they are better then the Wings by far and hopefully will show it in the next two periods. 3M line was the only ones who really put in a full effort out there.

Looking at how bad our AHL goalies have been this season, I am suprised Schneider is not being rewarded as he has been stellar behind the same defence thats said to make Gillies and Parsons look bad.

Sportsnet's Lindholm graphic continues to be super low-resolution. It's hilarious seeing it next to their sharp pictures of Gaudreau and Monahan.

The 1st goal was a good goal. A different decision might have been an easy stop, or an easy passing play. Listen to Gaudreau talk about a very similar goal against Winnipeg and he mentioned that he 'saw' a hole and hit it. Good goals are scored sometimes.
The 2nd goal was odd, and would have been a flukey save if he got it.
He made a bunch of good saves tonight and is moving faster than I've seen him as of late. The team needs to start controlling the play.
The Calgary goalie isn't the problem right now.
|
yeah, sometimes you just get beat... the others guys are getting paid too.
the second goal, i think smith should have been more aggressive on the pass in, which is arguable i suppose. Brodie did a bad job of controlling the winger's stick... after that it was just a lucky bounce off the incoming detroit player.
nothing egregious like other goals that Smith has let in and gets grief for.
that said, Calgary is in a hole now, and Smith needs to be able to make a few big stops to hold the fort... the team in front of him really needs to step it up

Their graphics drive me crazy. Poor quality pictures, terrible job cutting them out, often not colour corrected.
I could do a better job getting something ready for the broadcast with about a 10 minute warning.

The Flames are likely going to go on a slide unless they get their head out of their posterior. They play to the level of their opponent. We can beat the good teams because the team is engaged. However, when they play mediocre teams that they should walk over, they lose. It's like they feel that they should just walk over those teams and they get shocked when the other team has some talent of their own.
No actual effort for the team.
Until they actually decide to show up, it's going to be a long stretch of frustration. Only 3 games this month against good teams.

Not really. Schneider had a nice run, but was not much better than Gillies in his final few games before being dispatched to the ECHL. Since Parsons has returned from injury he has had some really strong games.

Shannon is a typical executive type who’s role becomes obsolete so he just jumps into something he isn’t good at until retirement comes. He has no insight to add at all he just has connections from when he was a producer.
His hockey analysis is terrible
