By trading Caggiula, adding Petrovic, Manning and attempting to trade Spooner, Chiarelli is essentially going all in on being a big, physical, heavy team. Basically the opposite of what the rest of league is doing by going smaller, faster and more skilled.
It's an interesting decision regardless of how it turns out. But you can't help think that trading away a close friend of McDavid's for a player who broke his collarbone is going to be ok in his mind. Too bad McDavid isn't more of a primadonna because I love to see a trade request after the season if their team missed the playoffs.

Hitch likes his teams to be big and physical and to be able to keep the game along the boards. This stinks of him telling Chia what kind of team he wants.

That was my thought as well. I think Hitch wants to go full old-school with his team. Play the trap, clear the front of the net with big defensemen, and hope McSavior can score enough to get them to OT.

Honesty I could see it happening.
Nobody in the National media would vilify him for it, and I doubt he cares about the local Edmonton media or reaction.
I doubt he will want to waste even more seasons trying to play with Ty Rattie and Milan Lucic as his wingers.
And I’m just waiting for the Edmonton media to start talking about how he’s not good enough defensively too. At Even Strength he’s been on the ice for 42 goals for and 38 goals against. You just know that Hitch or a media member will talk about how he’s giving up too much defensively.

Guess he's put all his eggs in the Hitchcock basket. He better hope there's no holes in it, because Edmonton's fans and media are hungry and ready to obliterate him at any second.

I honestly think that with the hole they have dug for themselves, trading McDavid is the only way out for them in the short-, and possibly even the medium-term.
I can't even imagine how fun it would be, regardless of the return, to watch the seething rage that Oiler fans would have towards the GM that traded him, and towards he himself for having requested or demanded a trade. It would be glorious to watch!

Calgary folk in Edmonton should start chirping him more when he's in public. He's talked about being chirped by Edmontonians in the past and I wonder if that could send him over the edge on a bad day. A McDavid trade request would blow up every hockey forum on the planet.

I cant get over this lol
1. Bring in a guy who allegedly told your only player that matters that he intentionally tried to hurt him, that will help the team chemistry
2. Trade a dman who you just gave up a 6th for a month later for another average dman but give up another pick this time 3 rounds higher lol
This is amazing
Also trade away a guy who has 11 goals

Both Hawks and Panthers fans have been saying that their teams moved the guys they dumped because those players were blocking better, younger players.

Well in Chiarelli's defense, that won't be an issue in Edmonton!

Now they should trade Nugent Hopkins for another 5th/6th Defenseman.

You guys say the Oil got Manning to "clear the front of the net" or "physical board play"?
HA HA HA HA HA!

We said Chia did that. We didn't say it was a good plan.
Also, in his defense, relative to some of their other D, there is some logic in it.

Of snow, during stoppages in play, slowly!

Chicago Blackhawks @NHLBlackhawks
ROSTER NEWS: Jason Garrison did not report to Rockford. As such, he has been placed on unconditional waivers. A further update on his status will be given tomorrow afternoon.

Lol, Edmonton essentially gives up Drake to acquire a guy Chicago would've killed someone to take and the negative value guy that "Balanced the trade out" happily gives Chicago a get out of jail free card, hilarious
Edit: Not that an expiring 1 year 650k contract was such a huge burden

Haha! Garrison willing to do Chicago a favour he obviously would not do for Edmonton.
