They easily could have lost 9-8 if Rittich didn't make some big time saves. As others have mentioned here the Flames looked a little porous defensively last night and lately in general.
No biggie as they scored 8 and got elite goaltending.
That still doesn't mean he won them the game though. When complaining about Smith people on here always say a goalie should be able to atleast make some big saves to keep their team in the game. He did that but also let in more goals than a goalie would like.
Like other mentioned he didn't have a bad game but I wouldn't call that spectacular either.
Some people fail to realize that a goalie can play well and let in several goals, and can play poorly and let in comparatively few. Why this is, I have no idea.
I liked where Burke was going with his remark that he judges a goalie based on what he should stop. Not what he could stop and they hope he does, but what he should.
Goalies do get scored on. Burns shot was from far out but was a great shot with a quick release, and overpowered Rittich. Rittich did have to move laterally and reset and almost got it as well. The expected save percentage on shots a NHL goalie sees cleanly is around 95 percent.
Goals happen. Even if you take 30 shots on a goalie that you think he should have, likely at least one will go in.

I especially like the colour commentator counting to 2 very quickly while watching a slow-motion replay.
Outstanding camera work / editing in real time. At 0:23, cut to Pavelski for a split second to clearly catch him shaking his stick and shouting a complete sentence, then back to the ice.

No NHL team can easily ever give up 9 goals no matter how badly they play.
News flash: NHL goalies sometimes make some decent saves, it’s to be expected.
To suggest Rittich was elite last night is disingenuous at its finest.
I never suggested he played horrible, but he wasn’t the biggest factor in the win LOL.

Late to the thread but happy new years y'all! Amazing game and way to end this year. I honestly didn't expect out team to be as good as we are at the beginning of this season but here we are. Let's keep this momentum going in 2019.
The timing of Neal's goal was even more delicious considering the garbage that Francis was inventing during the intermission. (For anyone that did not catch it, Francis claimed that Neal had a bad attitude and that was why he wasn't in the top 6.) I hope someone grabbed that game winning puck so that it could be force fed to Francis.
Nothing proves more how wrong he is than the expressions of the Flames as they come to celebrate the goal and then the players on the bench. He’s extremely well liked and supported in the room.

Was there a clip of Dells slash on Bennett? I didn't get to see the game and I don't mind Bennett's hit even without the context of the rising tensions, so I'm curious.

"That's Calgary Flames hockey, ladies and gentlemen. They like it rough and tough and nasty."
Lol, since when are the Flames known for being that kind of team? That description makes them sound more like the Ducks or Kings. The Flames are certainly scrappy, I'll give them that. But rough, tough, and nasty? Not really.
And then this quote: "That looked like head contact to me."
Lol, not even close.
