It wasn't actually a spear, it was a slash, although it still was a penalty.

Lol @ Deboer. The hit was predatory? What a jackass comment.

And Kane is in for a surprise next game if he thinks the Flames are scared of him.

And they still call Oliver "Kyle-lington”.

Hey all, Happy New Year!

I could not watch the 3rd period last night. After reading the thread, I understand that Dell had speared Bennett without a call, then Bennett delivered a borderline late hit on Simek. I got that and watched the clips. But then at the end there was some kind of a huge brawl and chaos on ice with everyone involved, even Rittich. Can someone, please, summarize what has happened there?

Thanks.

I'm really hoping AC can come up with a full clip of the Neal goal and more importantly the crowd ovation with the goal call.

Hopefully the Sharks sign Karlsson to a ridiculous long term contract. Having him and Burns on the back-end will result in a lot of goals against for them in the foreseeable future.

Really though teams look for any little advantage they can gain. They know the Flames are likely to bring a goon into the next game which plays into the Sharks hands. The Flames always feel like they need to dress a goon because the Oilers have Lucic, because the Ducks and Kings have some big players, etc. It's maybe part of the reason the Flames don't have as good a divisional record as rather than just ice the regular roster like they do against the rest of the league they feel they need to add tougher players to the mix.

That scrum happened on the shift just prior to the Bennett hit; it was what got Kane ejected from the game and stemmed from a battle between Kylington and a sharks player that escapes me. A penalty was going to be called on that initial play but as the players started to come together there was some pushing and shoving with Andersson, Kylington and Tkachuk (Rittich skated in too) along with some sharks players - Kane flew in late and was looking for Tkachuk, even threw his gloves off first but Tkachuk popped him a good punch in the eye in all the commotion.

Once all that was sorted out Bennett threw down the boom the very next shift.

I'd much rather have Prout fighting some good than a good player like Hamonic. The fourth line guys hardly see any ice anyway.

I’m not sure they need to play a goon next game.

Bennett fights Kane which should be competitive
Hathaway had a doozy with Dillon last year
Maybe Neal or Hamonic or Gio could fight Thornton

That’s about it for the Sharks tough guys isn’t it?

Who on the Sharks would actually drop the gloves with Peluso or Prout?

Tkachuk can usually handle himself as well. I agree, I don't think the Flames will need a goon in that game.

I also think Maroon will be a Flame by that game anyways. So we might not see Peluso or Prout thereafter.

I think that’s the only move Tre will make.

They easily could have lost 9-8 if Rittich didn't make some big time saves. As others have mentioned here the Flames looked a little porous defensively last night and lately in general.

No biggie as they scored 8 and got elite goaltending.

How about Brent Burns? Just by his looks could scared the heck out of anybody.

Kane barely fights. He's KO'd Cooke so he's got that going for him but basically all his fights are against non-fighters. He fought Hamonic to a draw last year. He's fine but Bennett has fought Trouba and Manson who are as tough or tougher than Kane.

That said - Bennett fought Goodrow who's tough. Shouldn't have to fight twice for the same hit.
