Bennett hit only .5 seconds after puck release. https://imgur.com/gallery/JKIRtgl

I got .5 seconds between puck leaving the stick and contact in my screenshots. First one you can see the puck clearly on dummy's stick as he turns his head 180 degrees, second you can see Bennett angle down and tense his shoulder right at the moment of impact.
Clean hit. Good hit. Dont stop doing that Sam!

What they should be looking at is 2 games for the fight.

They botched the Dumba play horribly, and this one isn't a suspension in the first place. Hit was clean, and it was late in the game where he didn't expect to be hit. Like we heard with Backlund... that's on him.

But fighting right after the hit late in the game? We've already seen that's a suspension, and the league damn well better call that if they have any shred of consistency.

Bennett should get suspended for that hit. A hit like that with 22 seconds left in a game with a three goal lead is going to draw the attention of the league. Frankly, that was well deserving of a match penalty and should result in a suspension. I thought Dumba deserved discipline, but the league blew that one. This one they shouldn’t let slide just because the perception is they owe the Flames one. League should be looking at the Dell spear as well and handing out some discipline there as well, but that does not excuse Bennett’s decision.

They should be letting this go because the hit was within the rules of the game. Who cares about how many minutes left. Exactly why Dumba wasn't getting a call
What's next? Punish hits early in the game because they set a nasty tone for the rest of the game?

First of all, the league wide complaining about officiating is an indictment of how unprofessional and incompetent it is. Pretty rare when a game goes by and there aren’t complaints by one team or the other. And in this game both team’s fan base was pissed off about the officiating. If the league embraces gambling on the games they seriously need to fix this because the refs impact outcomes.

The hit was not a legal hit, it was a smidge late. Nothing to freak out about. It was not predatory. It wasn’t from behind, targeting the head, involving the elbow or stick. The guy was facing the oncoming player and Sam squared him off. The player getting hit has some responsibility to protect themselves and didn’t. You have an emotional scrum at one end with ejections. Then Sam hits the ice after a spear? Sam plays a hard game with a nasty edge. Come on you dummy be smarter.

The hit may draw a fine or at worse one game. The timing may work against Sam as it was unnecessary. The same way Kane challenging the bench, the Dell slash and the two hander slash from Labanc we’re unnecessary. It was a super game and highly emotional. I wouldn’t change a single thing.

Your pounding of the drum is so thinly veiled now. I don't think you will be happy untill there is no more big hits aloud . I dont think you will be just my opinion. Even non borderline #### you have taken issue with lately.

Look I respect your worried about players health bit they signed the contracts and know the risks. If they want it out I expect them to take a hige paycut because the majority of fans don't want to see womans hockey.
Yes. I think I’ve been quite clear that I think big hits should be removed
What I don’t like about the hit was it had nothing to do with getting the puck back
It was reitribution. Retribution needs to be taken out of the players hands
It was exactly like the Dumba hit which should have also warranted punishment

I respectfully disagree. It's not about owing the flames anything, it's about following their own precedent. Reaves was not suspended, Dumba was not suspended, and both of those were late and/or predatory hits with the head as the primary point of impact. Bennett hit his guy square in the chest with hit that may or may not have been late depending on how you break it down. Sure, it was late in the game, but a clean hit should not be suspendable on basis of at what time it is delivered. The hit could be avoided, sure, but that does not deem it suspendable either. Whether or not it was .6 seconds or more late is the only thing the league should be interested in in this case, and even if it was it's not necessarily a suspension.

Dumba hit should have faced discipline, and this one should likely, too.

That being said, provided there is no long term injury to Simek, hits like this are how players get into other team's heads.

Bennett just did to the Sharks what Tkachuk did to the Kings.

There should be no debate at all about this. What happened to Bennett after the Dell call Miss is complete and utter horse shirt.

Man officiating against the flames is horrible. Terribly inconsistent where in the league do we see this Other than here in Calgary or on the road. Someone please explain it to me because I don’t see it. Outside of maybe Tom Wilson being under the microscope for his part in on exceptionally dirty play
If that was Michael Ferland hitting The shark player we be planning a wake.

I just can’t get over what we’re seeing this year and last and since the Weidman affect took affect. I don’t know how Bill peters keeps his cool with that #### eating grin.

I’m just glad our players are drinking the Kool-Aid that peters is making because while this team is different we have a long way to go. I suspected next game against the sharks Johnny better be careful and Sam if he’s playing.

Don’t change a thing flames you’re making me proud

Replace Bennett with Dell, hit with spear, 22 seconds to 13 minutes, and 3 goal lead to 4 goal lead. Dell's spear should have been 5 and a game. Refs didn't call it so a suspension should be coming. This is infuriating.

That hit was textbook hockey. It’s called finishing your check and although I see why the Sharks were pissed it was not a dirty hit

Know what? Keep your damn head up. Especially when your own teammates spent most of a period running around hacking at guys because they couldn't stop us from scoring at will. Simek should have known that admiring his pass in a game that the officials allowed to get out of hand had the potential to end poorly for him.

if Dumba got nothing, neither should Bennett. The problem is that Bennett likely gets something because the officials - who were clearly embarrassed that their own incompetence allowed the game to get out of hand - tried to make up for it with an over the top penalty call.

The only people who should rightfully be facing supplemental discipline for last night are O'Halloran and Nicholson.

Personally I thought it was a late and unecessary hit; however, the hit itself was textbook, just late.

I did not see this question asked, but if money was hit in a similar manner after not having the puck for the same amount of time would you still be ok with it?

I don't think that it was a spear, as Dell turns his stick and hots him with the flat end of the blade, he didn't spear him.

It should have been a slashing penalty. It could also be interference.

And since it was pretty bad in that Bennett didn't even have the puck ( i.e. not a hockey play but designed to likely injure), I would have given him a 5 minutes major and a game misconduct for it.

Backlund was hit in almost the same circumstance, but with a higher hit (head contact involved), and we generally weren't okay with it - but the NHL was. Dumba wasn't fined or suspended, so it's a legal hit. Bennett's hit was cleaner than Dumba's, so yeah - it's just about playing to the whistle.

Just like that Dumba hit though, it could have been avoided had the referees not been "managing the game".

Actually i would think he talked/texted to someone in league office within minutes of the incident.

Those guys are on the job as long as games are being played, New Years eve or not.

"Long hard look" may be a bit of hyperbole, but little question he was told they would be looking into this further.

If he gets suspended I think Flames fans need to implement a viral campaign to the Dept of player safety which includes the Kunitz and Dumba hits.

Like I said about the Dumba hit, completely clean and the score/time left on the game doesn’t matter in terms of discipline. If it’s proven to be within the threshold and not a late hit I don’t see what the league could even be looking at.

Simek actually could not have been in a LESS vulnerable position. He had complete ability to avoid the hit he just made a lazy hockey play and paid for it.
