No they’re not. You might be thinking of the division, not the conference.

Man, that Pettersson kids looks like a wet noodle but he's got it all -- never seen such a fluid skater who can change direction and accelerate like that and that includes Gaudreau. And to have a shot like that in such a small package -- wow. Kid will be a superstar.

Flames deserved a much better fate. Out played the Canucks for the vast majority of the game and had trouble with only one line on the Canucks. Give Vancouver some credit, they took way the lanes and made the Flames play a game they didn't want to play. The Flames refused to shoot the puck when they had opportunities and that cost them the game.
Time for Peters to recognize he has some personnel issues to deal with. Sam Bennett is not a good player. Yes, he skates hard and bumps into people a lot, but the guy has no toolbox. He is not a smart player, doesn't make good reads, and makes his line mates worse because plays die on his stick. He's a 4th line energy player at this point and should be playing there until he proves otherwise. You can't give a player like Bennett 2nd line time when he produces nothing.
I still don't understand the Ryan love. Same with Czarnik. Neither do a heck of a lot out there and both are too small to contribute when they are not generating offense - and neither of them generate offense. I appreciate Ryan's faceoff ability, but he's got nothing after that. Needs limited ice time. Czarnik just doesn't do anything out there. Quine was a way better player and could at least play at both ends of the ice. Czarnik is a massive disappointment and is part of the lack of secondary scoring.
I'd go with this line up for a few games and see how things go.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Jankowski-Neal
Dube-Backlund-Frolik
Bennett-Ryan-Hathaway
I think that Tkachuk would flourish with a passer like Jankowski, and a shooter like Neal. Neal and Tkachuk on the same line should piss off the opposition to end. The chemistry Backlund has with another player is with Frolik, so they should remain a pair. Dube seems like a perfect fit with them as he plays a very similar game to Backlund and Frolik. Defensively responsible and drives the game north-south. The 4th line gets spot duty and works on possession, bumping and grinding.

Yeah he’s incredible. It’s a good thing he’s shifty, because Dube tossed him to the ice like a toddler.

At what point do they shake up PP2?
Backlund and Ryan are horrific on it.
Show me:
Bennett
Jankowski - Neal
Hanifin - Andersson

What does Czarnik bring over Bennett? I'll take Bennett's forecheck and bodychecks over invisble Czarnik.

The shot is what separates him imo. Lethal accuracy and power in slap, snap, and wrist shots. Hands and speed at the same level as Johnny. I think Johnny is better at dekeing and evading hitters. Pettersen is a homerun though.
It really blows that when the flames draft our potential best skilled player of all time in Johnny and finally manage to assemble a very good core around said superstar, our rivals luck into picking up generational talents. Won't help them from winning much over the course of a season unless they can take the next steps and build around said stars (fat chance with Benning and chiarelli lol) but it will allow them to maintain status as thorns in our side and annoyances.

That is correct. Both of them outplayed Calgary's top line players and the Canucks won the game.

If Vancouver had drafted Sergachev they would be be another step ahead. Travis Green has them playing as a team. If Marks trombone keeps up his play they are going to hang around for awhile.

I haven't watched many Canucks games, but I do agree they have a little of that 2014 flames team in them. As long as they continue to get great goaltending they will be in the thick of things. Without looking I would, assume they are getting out shot more often then not and are really capitalizing on their chances Ala the flames in 2014. The thing to see is will they be able to stay in it when teams hit that next gear after the all star break.

One game...Flames are still overall much better
Refs also stole the game by stealing a legit goal...Canucks are nothing special

I never suggested they are better than the Flames or that the refs didn't miss a couple of key calls.
I was just reacting to the PGT comments that almost universally put the loss on the refs. It's a BS take and typifies everything wrong about this place when we can't have an honest discussion about what really happened last night.
It was a rivalry game that the Flames dominated for stretches, but ultimately lost because they were outplayed. Pettersson and Boesser each scored and each had a glorious chance in OT. Plus the Flames were hanging on for the tie in the last 3 minutes. Calgary went 0 for 5 on the PP. Canucks are a good young team and they were better than Calgary last night.
Deal with it.

I would actually like to see Kylington or Andersson in OT over Brodie and Hanafin. Brodie is a great skater but his offensive instincts are poor.
Disappointing game, but good to see the team limiting regulation losses. Losing 2 of 3 yet getting 4 of 6 points is fine.

The Flames were the better team, as I have said earlier. There were long shifts where they played Globetrotter in the Canucks' zone.
The Canucks capitalized on a couple dangerous chances and got kinda lucky in OT.

It was two different games. Flames the significantly better team in first half but only a one goal lead to show for it.
Canucks slightly better in second half, but enough to even the score.
OT is what it is. Flames with chances they didn’t do much with and a bad play by Bennett.
Personally I don’t give the Flames a pass for letting Vancouver back into the game. It’s inexplicable really as to why their play dropped off when the game was still close and then tied for an entire period plus.
