Lol. Canucks fans already getting back to their annoying ways after recent unsustainble success - claiming that their top 3 of Horvat, Pettersson, and Boeser are better than the Flames top guys... and such.

Call me when they have as many points. And are leading their team to a PO spo.

I don't think he's snakebit as much as he should look at year's past... he's playing shy - as evidence by his shooting position and backing away from danger zones - and he's been doing the same thing all season, it's bizarre to be honest.

Thought the Flames had multiple chances to win the game but Markstrom was very very good and full credit to the Nucks they didn't give the Flames much room when they had opportunities. Flames were the better team throughout the game though and it showed.

Nights like these are when we need the top line to produce, rare when they are shut out of the score sheet.

I really don't like Petterson. I just don't.

Other than Oiler fans, Canuck fans are easily the most insufferable of any major sport, let alone the NHL. Just an embarrassing fan base.

I just don't see Neal being a fit on the Flames.

The Flames game is speed and quick transition. No matter what line you put Neal on, he does not possess those attributes and hauls down his line.

Three way tie for second worst - Canucks, Leafs, Jets.

Flames played really well and deserved a better fate.

I wonder if James Neal will ever score again? Pucks just won’t go in for him right now. Frustrating to watch as I’m a big fan of his and I think he gets way too much flak around here (the comparisons to Brouwer are ridiculous, by the way). I just want him to get it going so bad.

Also I’m so done with Ryan on the PP. He just isn’t good enough. I though Jankowski had a fantastic game and has been playing very well lately, I’d like to see him get a chance there.

Top 2 lines play like crap and we get a point.

What I take from this is this a very good hockey team

I’d throw Frolik back on the line for a couple games and see if they can get their groove back.
Frolik and Backlund basically gave up the last two calender months last year, with dreadful point totals. Tkachuk got hurt in there, and Frolik was hurt earlier in the year and then again this year. Backlund was healthy. but busy counting his money on his new 5 year contract extension.

Point being its been a long time since that line had a sustained "groove".

Hahaha! No. There have been several games this year in which the Backlynd line has been the best one on the ice.

I think you just made this up. I'm a Canuck fan with an objective view of hockey and I've never encountered any Canuck fan that has expressed that view...either in person or in cyberspace. The Flames have very exciting, young players as do the Canucks. I look forward to many years of our top lines going at it regardless of the outcome.

Mmmmmno.

There are no “objective” hockey fans. Not one.

Just back from the game...was going to make a few "observations", but so many posters have already eloquently articulated the key aspects of tonight's game.

But I will say this: the main reason the Flames did not win tonight was because they decided against altering their game enough to do so.

Markstrom was good, yes, but the Flames caused him less grief than they could have, often passing up prime shooting opportunities to, as Peters said in his post-game interview, make a "cute" play. (Hell, even short-handed, Backlund and Ryan each tried to make cross-ice passes in our own zone instead of firing the puck down the ice, each pass getting picked off and keeping the Canuck's PP alive).

In the second period (and in many instances throughout the entire game), the Flames dominated 5-on-5, making it look like men playing against boys. Yet they didn't do enough to make the Canucks pay, forcing cross-ice passes through defenders' sticks, and refusing to put the puck toward net.

Coming out of the D-Zone, the Flames made repeated lazy passes into the middle of the ice, with many flip-passes getting picked-off at the blue line, keeping the pressure on.

But ultimately for me, after watching this game live, the bottom line is this:

The Flames are a good team--maybe even very good. But if they want to take the next step, they simply have to find ways to win games like this one tonight, even if that means getting hard-working, storm-the-crease-type goals, or playing a more straight-forward "chip it in and grind it out" type game. They have to commit to winning ugly sometimes, despite the abundance of skill permeating the lineup.

And the best part is that I think they will. I fully expect Peters to have them ready to come out full-throttle against San Jose, because there is no way Peters could have been satisfied with the style tonight. (And for the record, isn't it nice to have a coach who so accurately and clearly identifies the positives and negatives with his team? He's got the pulse of this group down pat).

Perhaps most exciting is that if the Flames can take that next step and consistently alter their in-game play in order to win in different fashions, they're going to be scary good. And that's an unbelievably amazing thing to be able to say as a Flames fan, recognizing that it's not just blind hope supporting it anymore.

(Oh, and one more positive: The Oilers lost. Again.)

Can't let teams hang around.

PP is abysmal.
