Although, to be fair, Cardinale is more like a refresh than a whole new restaurant.
Oops, too many Italian joints I like. I meant Alforno for our family.

La Vita Bella was our go to expensive couples Italian place, that news makes me sad

The owner of Sushi Zipang in Bridgeland (best sushi place in Calgary) used to be a sushi chef in the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. In other words, he knows his ####.

Oh cool. I assumed they were English style since they are pretty thick.

Best new restaurant was Bread & Circus?

I took my in-laws there last week, and the main pasta dishes were damn near inedible due to being way, way over salted. My in-laws (who are from Italy) also could not finish their pasta for the same reason.

When I told them the food was too salty, they basically said it was the Guanciale and parm and if I couldn't handle it, that was my fault. That was really offputting. There was maybe three small pieces of guanciale and no more parm than I would have put on a plate of pasta, plus those additions do not over-salt and permeate the pasta noodles itself. Their chefs botched the pasta, and I think they just didn't want to admit it or didn't like the criticism.

I will never, ever go back there again. There are way better places than that place.

One more thing: they used way too much Amaro in their desert, also couldn't be finished.

Speaking of BBQ, Belle Southern Kitchen closed/is closing.

It is more miss than hit from my experience. Brisket tasted like charcoal, not smoke and the sausages were dry.

Chicken was okay. Cornbread is crap.

Prices are really skyrocketing, reflecting the minimum wage I assume. I think I am going to stop going to certain places as I will not pay that much for pretty basic food as a matter of principle (farewell, Il Centro...). Going to see further closures I suspect - the "fancy" places will be able to ride this out better as one goes to those expecting to be gouged, but mom & pop type outfits will have a tough time passing on the cost.

Friends who are from the southern states tell me this is as close to a Texan BBQ restaurant as you can get north of the border

Smoke flavour was great in the meats. Sausage and pulled pork were great. The chicken was dry. Hog spuds and Mac and cheese were good too

Disappointing thing was the barbecue sauce. They do try to vary their sauces but it all taste the same with the same texture

Weekends are a full house at this place

Wellington's and Oscar's is closing at the end of April. The lease became untenable. That place is like 40 years old.

Damn, that place is an institution. Aren’t they affiliated with the Cattlebaron?

That's terrible news!! One of my favorite places, always an excellent steak and always a great meal.

It has been there for 40 years for sure!! The lounge was always a great spot to watch a Flames game and have a higher level meal for not a lot of money.

Far too many pubs these days are all the same overpriced burger or buffalo chicken wrap with fries. You can go to Wellington's and have a veal cutlets or some of their more casual fair like lasagna and some great sandwiches for $17.

Rib Eye steak sandwich was always excellent too!! Great priced wine list.

Damm, I was just there too! They are the same owners as Cattle Baron, yes
