What does it take to become a repeat offender?

I know you're probably joking but I mean in a non-NHL hockey player sense. $2,500 is nothing to multi-millionaire hockey player. And I don't think even getting fined that multiple times is enough to make a player change.

That last one to JT Miller (?) is just terrible and super dangerous. Even Jokinen got a suspension (3 games maybe) when he did something similar as a Flame. How does the league not do anything with that?

100% serious.

2,500 / 8,000,000 = 0.03125%
2.50 / 8,000 = 0.03125%
0.25 / 800 = 0.03125%

Now if you are saying that the guy who makes $8,000,000 USD this year still has $7,997,500 left over, earns about 204 times the average person in Canada makes , and you only have $7,997.50 or $799.75, then yes he still has more money than you. As a percentage of your income, the figures I have are correct. If you make $80,000, it's like $25 to you on a percentage basis.

I get your calculations but my point is a hockey player making 8 million is not going to worry about losing $2,500 and think twice about doing something stupid again much like I'm not going to worry about losing $2.50.

Damn. There are a few people I'd pony up $25 to smack with a hockey stick. Some of them are NHLers. Byfuglien, for example.

I really didn’t think this was as bad as everyone is saying it was. I know I’m in the minority here and I’m usually agreeing with criticism of the NHL’s flawed justice department but the play was not quite the McSorley-Brashear axing that many here are making it out to be. And it’s kinda a bad look on the fan base too- as I believe we already have a reputation (like Gaudreau) for whining a lot. Was it a penalty? Yeah, a slashing minor. A fine? I guess? $2,500 seems a little over the top but appropriate if it will quell the fans thirst for blood.

Like you people are aware this is hockey and not ballet right?

That's not a hockey play. Hockey is trying to put the puck into the net with a stick. Hitting an opponent with a stick is kendo.

Are you aware that hockey players have been criminally charged for stick swinging?

I think it does, yes. You saying it wouldn't be different if he swung at his head?

Anyway, what's done is done. Game on.

Oh I agree it’s a penalty (as I said......), I’m just saying it isn’t as bad as people are making it out to be. Like that is not a suspension worthy play at all.

Sounds great until you realise others would also be able to pony up $25

I think what people are arguing is that it probably should be. How is this any less of an intent to injure than a hit from behind into the boards, and elbow to the chin, or a sucker punch? It’s a goon play that could result in serious injury. If Buffs wrist is angled slightly different this hits Johnny in the head instead of the arm. Just because he hit his arm it’s okay? There’s nothing about this play that could have stopped Johnny outside of actually injuring him. Why shouldn’t this be suspendable?

Im not saying he should be charged or anything. I'm saying it's not a hockey play and there's precedent for that position.
