He's easily their best LWer and probably 2nd best winger on the team.

Pretty good deal for him and the team.

Guentzel is ok. That contract is... not.

He's got 114 points in 158 games and far more impressively, 42 points in 37 playoff games.

He's much better than okay.

Crosby got him a nice payday.

He’s close to point per game this year and 24.

Wonder what he would be like without Crosby.

I'm not convinced that Guentzel is much more than a glorified Pascal Dupuis or Chris Kunitz.

Dupuis had one season over 40 points (although another 2 where he paced for it).

Kunitz hit 60 points long before he got to Pittsburgh.

Everyone thinks its easy to score with Crosby or Malkin but there are tons of failed people who couldn't. Same with the Sedins.

Guentzel has proven to be clutch.

Dupuis had seasons of 59 and 48 points, but your point still stands. I don't entirely agree -- I see Guentzel as a $5 million-ish player. This contract won't cripple the Penguins but I don't think it's terrific value, especially not for an RFA.

^ James Neal could score on Pittsburgh and Calgary locked him up for less AAV than Guentzel

All he has ever done is play well and produce, especially in the playoffs. Don’t know how many UFA years they are buying but he seems like a guy every team would kill to have.

He's been a clutch player for the Pens, not just relying on Crosby. He was fantastic in their last cup run.

He's pretty good on his own without Crosby. Way more than just a product of Crosby.

He's way better than Rust. Rust on the other hand is pretty much a complete leecher off of Crosby.

Seems pretty good to me. I think it's reasonable to expect Guentzel to be a 60 point-ish player for the duration of that contract.

It's bad compared to Gaudreau, Monahan and Lindholm's deals but compared to the league as a whole it's good value.

Great contract. The player is already an ELITE playoff performer who is still young enough to improve.

He scores at what, a 50 goal pace in the playoffs? Ya sign that guy long term

Regardless. Crosby isn’t going anywhere. All they need are guys who can play with Crosby.

No thanks. We only needed to make one trade for a Pittsburgh goalie and unfortunately that goalie is already on another team, he's also leading the league in Wins for that other team.
