As reactionary as it may sound I've really questioned Peter's decision making on these two things and it honestly makes me wonder if we're playing well because of him or despite him.
Just have no real answer for this it's just sad seeing us waste away points like this.

He's banking on Neal to play out of his slump. I would Neal more than 3 months to just give up on him.
Regarding Smith, this has been a full year of trash goaltending (outside of a couple good games). I want to see Gilles.

Why has Quine played barely more than 3 minutes? They should give Quine the rest of Neal's minutes.

It's not an excuse. I'm neither a Smith fan or a hater so I can look at goals with no bias.

Non-existent forecheck this period.
And stop passing to Neal.

Flames have taken a step back in the third. They need more zone time.

Maybe we could start a GoFundMe page to buy out Smith's contract, and get a goaltender.
That Delio kid looked pretty good for the Hawks last night....maybe we could get him. Trade Neal for him even....

Man, they keep harping on about how good Neal's shots are looking today. Things are desperate for him.

Multiple people predicted this game going this way with Smith in net, he shouldn’t of been allowed to start a game for a month after that joke of a goal he let in vs Philly, but here we are watching this team have to play in front of the worst goalie in the NHL. Smith won’t retire because he wants his pay check but he really should ask not to start. Save himself this embarassment

As it stands we're one Rittich injury away from a very big problem, so he's doing what he can to prepare / mitigate such a situation.
|
I understood that mentality originally but it's not working. Outside a 5-6 game stretch anyone with eyes can see that this Smith experiment is not working.
We have to ride Rittich and concurrently be looking for alternative options, Smith is not doing us any favour and no amount of "easy matchups" for him seems to be fitting the bill. This should have been an easy game for Smith to come out and build confidence and he's showing us what we've seen most of the season so far.

I like Peters. He has been a full 180 from Glen Gulutzan. I get that he likes to roll with Derek Ryan an unusual amount but he hasn't been a big liability so I could care less about that.
But
His over use of Mike Smith is getting us scored on more than normal and his use of James Neal on the 2nd line and PP is not providing any scoring. I would also argue that Neal brings down the scoring chances by putting him on that line.
Having Neal playing alot of offensive minutes is a scoring liability.
Having Smith play in net is a defensive liability.

Allen has been good and Allen has been lucky. Flames had plenty of good looks.

Random question after seeing Brian Sutter in the stands. When the media refers to the "Sutter" farm is it just the one farm still or a general term for any of the brothers land?
Remember watching something on Darryl the Kings did and seems like a different plot of land than Brians etc. Or do Rich and Ron still share bunk beds?

Even allowing for the free goal for STL, we have not been good enough in the 3rd to get back in to this.
Poor all round performance.

You don't have to be a "hater" to realize Smith's career is over
bad rebound and then a bad shot goes in...shots are gonna happen, Smith should do his job this is the NHL

And it’s very likely it could turn into 4 given our first game after the break is a very tough game to win given its Winnipeg in Winnipeg. But you have to big picture it and just accept given how well this team is doing.
If they lose today, this will be the first bad loss in a month IMO. A shootout loss to TB is nothing to be concerned about, and our other two losses before today were both on the road and game 3 in 4. Today should be a win and will be a bad loss if it happens, but it’s been a while since we’ve had one, nothing to panic about.
