It's mostly been Mike Smith in net, and he's been very good. The Flames are winning shootouts and close games.

Sports Illustrated from the 19th...

The same Flames that are now 0-2 in the shootout? Hilarious.
*EDIT* Oh, I get it. SI means the other kind of "shootout." The metaphorical one.

For 8 straight years, 1983 to 1990, Alberta had a team in the Stanley Cup finals.

Nah, I used to cheer for the Habs but that was pre-Flames. Since then, I hate the Oilers, Leafs, Canucks and Jets. Habs and Ottawa I don't really care about.
As for meeting in the POs, I'd like to see the Oilers miss the POs until I'm long gone.

16/31 would equate to 3.61 of the Canadian teams making the playoffs if it was exactly proportionate.
Now, I'd say that's pretty unlikely. The only way I can see 3.61 is if they let Connor McDavid in but say the rest of the Oilers stink too much for the playoffs, and he has to play alone. That assumes he is 61% of the team, which seems about right.
Really though, 3.61 rounds to 4, and that's probably where things end up. Calgary, Winnipeg and Toronto in, plus one of Edmonton/Montreal/Vancouver.

I thought that it was self evident -- sort of like a team wouldn't accomplish much with Dougie Hamilton as an important player -- that the Canadian teams have been substandard for the last while and that this season to date has been an anomaly for fans of Canadian teams to enjoy
Since the 2010-11 season right up to last year: 6 seasons - 540 regular season games, the most winning Canadian team was Montreal.... they won as many games as they lost and ranked 14th in wins in the league over that 6 year period.
Montreal 270 - 270
Winnipeg 268 - 272
Ottawa 256 - 284
Calgary 253 - 287
Vancouver 253 - 287
Toronto 247 - 293
Edmonton 218 - 322

And that is not that unusual of a number. 3-4 is the norm.

I don't want to meet Oilers in round one nor 2nd, I want them to barely miss the playoff this season and next and next...until eternity.

Come on, the last playoff BOA happened to end just before i was born. I'm more than satisfied with their unprecedented decade of suck....but find it really hard to believe that myself and the rest of the new generation wouldn't enjoy a flames vs oil playoff.

Why would you take the last ten games? I’m sure there have been 10 game stretches over the years when all cdn teams were above .500 which is basically what you’re saying?
Not all Canadian teams are good. Ottawa sucks, Montreal is ok but likely to miss, Vancouver sucks, Edmonton is ok. This thread could easily be titled “three of the seven Canadian teams are good this season”.
Dumb.

To answer the question of the last really good year for Canadian teams, you'd have to go back to good old 2003-2004.
5/6 Canadian teams qualified for the playoffs -- Edmonton only missed by three points or everyone would've been in. Toronto, Ottawa, and Vancouver all had over 100 points (back when that was more of an accomplishment and indicated you were definitely a contender). 3/5 Canadian teams advanced past the first round, with Calgary advancing all the way to the Stanley Cup final.

This is a problem with most of your posts. Your actual point is rarely "self evident" and requires a frustrating few rounds of comments before you sometimes reveal it. You should do a better job of communicating your point in your initial post on a topic.

The Oilers are the only Canadian team I really hate.
I used to hate Van just as much but then the Sedins retired..
That being said I would never cheer for them to win the cup.
A Leafs vs Flames cup final would be epic IMO, the media would be insufferable but the rest of it would be fun... Especially when we win and shut them all up.

I hope never to see a Leafs vs. Anyone cup final.
The Maple Leafs are the only team out of the Original Six that has never made the finals since the 1967 expansion. They are one of the very few teams in the league that have never won three best-of-seven series in one year's playoffs. And yet they have the most arrogant fan base and the most obsessive media coverage in the league, bar none – not even Edmonton is as bad.
The longer the Leafs continue that run of futility, the better I, for one, will like it.

Edmonton isn't good, their winning streak was an illusion of exceptional goaltending. They've lost three in a row and looked terrible tonight.
