The funny thing to me is every fan base chronically complains about reffing. How could any team think that they are special in being targeted when everyone thinks they are special for receiving bad officiating.
The bottom line is that the NHL has the best hockey officials in the world, if you don't like officiated sports than watch movies.

Nick Nurse went after the officials last night about Kawhi and people are praising. I get that it's a different sport, but the contrast between the tone here and the tone in the other thread is kind of funny.

Again, gamesmanship. The message is probably closer to:
"No worries boys, we didnt lose that game, the refs won it! Everything is A-Okay! Stick to the plan! Stick to the system! Clog up the Neutral Zone (ironically exactly what the Canucks did against McDavid) and everything is going to be Aces! We'll win the Cup for suresies!!"

What is the closest Flames equivalent to Staples, Spector, (Tychkowski to a point) and Terry Jones?

There is NO close comparable from ANY market. The Edmonton media are in a class all their own.
No.
Not even lipstick on a pig applied by Edmonton media propagandists can save the Oilers.
No one can.
No one.

An article like this would only ever appear in an Edmonton media outlet.

Such a classic. I re-read it each time it's posted.

There isn't one. And there will never be one. If someone acted like those guys in this town, they wouldn't last a week, they would be dragged out of town behind a horse, and left to collect flies on the side of the road (preferably one heading to Edmonton).
Hell, you don't even see posters on here - just posters - that are as balls-to-the-wall homerish as those guys.

I don't know if we have one at that level. Rod Pederson voice of the Rough Riders comes close.

Flames got a penalty for skate tying...
then killed it off and won the game

What makes that article even sweeter is it starts off with some quotes from GG. Whom they since hired. Can't make this stuff up.

The direction of the conversation at HFOil has been priceless.
There's a meta-conspiracy brewing, heads up everyone! When, according to them, Calgary complained about all the slashing to Gaudreau, the refs started going easier on us. They've been treating us with unfair kindness and extra PPs ever since. However, after Hitchcock's complaints, you can bet the refs will be even *less* kind to the Oilers. They'll be punished.

Didn't Gaudreau get kicked out of a game last year because he flinched after a stick almost smacked his face, and he yelled at the refs for getting a penalty?
This is what I don't get, now and then every team gets shafted. No team is special in that.

Sounds about right... but is it anything compared to how McDavid had to fight off Edler with his glove?

The difference being that NBA officiating is legitimately corrupted. It's a league that openly admits to officiating stars different than other players which is fine I guess as they feel it leads to a more popular sport and they're open about it.
But they also clearly officiate teams differently based on how big the cities are and where they're located and how much revenue they bring into the league.
Not to mention they got caught fixing an NBA finals. NBA is not sport it's pure entertainment, the NHL just has a lot of poor officiating like most professional sports.

point being - the NBA should be openly criticized by coaches as the officiating is not legitimate. It's like a cross between WWE and a real sport in terms of reffing.

The statistical difference in drawing penalties per team is not even that significant. If you eliminate the two out liars, Nashville who draws on average 11 PIM a game, and Pittsburgh who draw on average 6.8 PIM a game, the difference between the top penalty drawers and bottom penalty drawers is about 1 minor penalty a game.
Most teams don't even convert at a 25% rate on their PP, so we'll take the Oilers as the average at 20% conversion.
If the Oilers do indeed have a conspiracy against them, by not getting an average 1 more PP a night are getting screwed out of a goal once every 5 games. For a total of 16 goals a season!

I hate the trap but, it was quite a beauty to watch the Canucks did against McDavid.
