Sarah McLellan @sarah__mclellan
Tkachuk on his fight with Dumba: "That’s my center. [Dumba’s] a tough guy over there, a great defenseman. He’s had a great year, but I didn’t like the hit. I don’t think anybody did. That’s my center. Not going to let anybody do that to him."

Sarah McLellan @sarah__mclellan
Giordano: "A couple of hits that obviously each team didn’t like in the last game, myself and Dumba’s. Give him credit, he stood up for himself and obviously when [Hendricks] came and asked, I wasn’t going to back down either. It was a good, hard-fought period."

I just rewatched. It's over 35 seconds after icing when the call is made, there are three Flames lined up on the faceoff (including one tieing his laces) but the refs seemed more annoyed at the others who are still standing and talking at the bench, not even trying to skate over by the time the penalty is blown. At 2:07 (real time), you can get a good view of the ice and they literally have someone leaning against the bench when the call is made.

So if there's a case of a team taking 35 seconds and having players leaning against the bench taking a breather on the icing call next time, then that would be inconsistency. But at this point it seems pretty excessive, Peters pushed it just a bit to far, next time at least pretend to appear that you're trying to get to the faceoff dot 'quickly.'

In fact the ref who calls it isn't even paying attention to Monahan, he's yelling because they still have the wrong guy on and the Flames trade off but he blows the whistle...
Yeah I'm sure Oiler fans loved the call too...fact is they never call it.

I suggest you move on

Unclear, but they did mention that he might have hurt his hand in the fight.

If you're not ready, call a delay of game penalty.

Makes things fair and clear for everyone.

That could actually delay games even longer as players try to squeeze every second available.

They do call it. Fact is you never see icing calls where 35 seconds after the whistle has blown the team still doesn't have the right players on the ice.

That gets called quite often when it happens. It just doesn't happen often. Why don't you move on? People like you drag down CP so much, people can disagree and discuss without being dicks.

The most under-appreciated aspect of The Trade was that it also allowed the Flames to swap left-side Brodie for right-side Brodie. Playing with Brodie has allowed Gio to elevate his game to a new level.

I actually think the Gio-Brodie pairing is better than Gio-Hamilton was, and Hanifin-Hamonic is miles better than Brodie-Hamonic was. GG truly wasted two years of Brodie by insisting on keeping him on the left side.

Yep, good call.

5:46 left in the game and Vatanen is at the bench getting a new stick or something and they ref comes over and calls the delay.

If that's the new standard, great.

They did that for about half a season about a decade ago, it was wild there would be faceoffs with only one center on the dot, then they stopped for some reason.

I suggest you watch some games tonight...there will be many face offs 35+ seconds after icing calls.

It is not a call made often, certainly not in the final minutes of a one goal game.

Should it be? That is debatable.

Mark Giordano is amazing.

Those of you that suggested at the beginning of the year he had certainly lost a step need to feel shame. Gio is like a fine wine. We are lucky to have him.

Awesome to see Matthew go after Dumba. Show his buddy Backs hes got his back.

Big Save Dave lives up to his nickname yet again. There were some big ones. Thought the entire D core played a good game in front of him.

Shout out to Hathaway for his penalty kill work tonight. Much hustle and puck pressure. In 39:44 of PK time he has only been on the ice for a single powerplay goal against.

Another two points!

35+ seconds and the team doesn't even have the right players on the ice? I doubt that, but sure point all of those out to me and then we can agree about the inconsistency. You know, if it happens many times tonight.

It's not that the faceoff was taken 35+ seconds (it wasn't taken at all...), it was that the ref was still arguing with Peters 35 seconds after. If you have to change a helmet, get a new stick, probably even tie laces, that's one thing. Arguing with the ref 35+ seconds about who's on the ice? That happens rarely and when it does, you get a penalty.

Caps had the exact same penalty called against them against the Oilers last month.

Later in the third period, the Caps were called for icing. When called for icing, the same five players must stay on the ice. At times, a team can get caught trying to change on icings which leads to some confusion as to who needs to come back on the ice or stay on the bench. The Caps had about six or seven players on the ice as they sorted out who had to stay on the ice, but apparently they took too long for the referee’s liking and he called the team for delay of game.

Good idea but 15-20 seconds at most.

If you are saying it's a call referees consistently make we will have to agree to disagree here.

Fact that it has been called two or three times this entire season suggests to me that it is a call rarely made. Thus not consistent.
