One small change to this deal.

Ottawa is not sending a 3rd round pick but Adam Cracknell since it turns out I did not have a 3rd round pick to send.

Yes the Senators have begun to make some moves.

Leaving Ottawa is Robert Esche and Alexie Kovalev
Both clearly needed a change in scenery as both pretty much stunk in Ottawa this year.

We are happy to have Jordon Staal in Ottawa. He like his Older brother have always been players we have wanted to have in Ottawa.

Its kinda of interesting that 2 out of the 4 players I got from trading Staal went to get his younger brother..

We are also glad to have some more good young players in there fold as well.

If anyone needs a younger AHL goalie I have 1 or 2 that I can move.

this also gives us 7 Dmen in the CPHL. which will be helpful since the injury bug has hit us in recent weeks.

On a Side note. Sanderson looks to be next on the block..

This does not mean that the Dallas Stars hunt for a goaltender has ended. I will still be looking for one. This trade just stops the bleeding temporarily.

I am going for the cup this year.

Well good luck Sunil. I was going to say I am not sure whether Esche was a great improvement over Wanks but you are building up a nice group of forwards.

In my mind Sunil had two choices.

1. Shore up the goaltending and go for it
2. Don't shore up and rebuild.

You aren't going to compete without a true #1. Now its debateable whether or not Esche is that - but he's a step up for sure. And he wasn't going to get an 80 OVR goalie. Those that have one sure has hell ain't giving them up.

This was a deal Sunil had to make.

It came down to Staal for Kovalev and Esche. I really want to win. I have no plans to rebuild. This team has been out of the playoffs for 3 straight years, and I am going to do whatever it takes to get into the playoffs and go far in the playoffs.

This deal gives me a 78 and a 77 in net now. I don't have the 80OV goalie but I have a very good 1-2 punch now.

My defence is as good as anyones in this leauge, and goals have not been a big problem for me this year.

The team does feel like it has band aids all over it, but with Becky and Chad making good moves and making a push as well as the Wild, Oilers, and Kings finally coming around if I want to be here come playoff time I had to bring in some front line talent.

What I found interesting is Sunil now has the same goalie combo I had in Ottawa 78 and 77 ov.. I just hope it works out better for him than it did for me.

Either way though I am happy. the team needed a change...and this is a pretty big change

Default One Fans Opinion

I gotta say, I cringed after seeing you had Staal on the block, but as much as I hate seeing Staal go, I certainly think you got full value back for him. You sold him for a lot more than what I paid to get him and that's the whole name of the game really.

Atleast now it appears the Stars are contending for a further run in the playoffs. If you can get your hands on a #1 RW and perhaps a small upgrade at goal, you'll have one less concerned fan on your hands about where this team is going. Good job on this one and good luck with the next!

Someone is gonna have to pay through MJK's roof, then Mango's roof, maybe KevGuy's roof, AND THEN my roof to get my #1 goalie.

Interesting move. Ottawa needed to do something as that team is far too good to struggle the way they have. Perhaps moving out a couple of ego's will make them resurge like the Flames or Preds did when they moved out a couple players.

Dallas doesn't get a great number one but between Weekes and Esche his goaltending should be good enough to get by in the Howe. If Kovalev starts scoring it would help out a lot. I've seen the SIM use the third team is a charm thing before where guys sucked for the first two teams they were with in a season and than exploded on the third.
