I've been watching highlights and man, Gaudreau's cross-ice backhand pass to Tkachuk that resulted in Monahan's 1st goal is absolutely disgusting.

Agree or disagree, perhaps because it takes the (arguably) wrong (arguably GM / loyalty/ whatever based) decision out of the coach’s hands (and forces him to accept the statistically getter goalie as starter, independent of ego / contract / whatever else situations)
I think Smith is better than his recent stats imply, but surely you can’t fault the end result if thinking Rittich may be the better goalie, just the means.
|
I think it is possible for Peters to make the right decision on the starting goalie (Rittich) without being happy about Smith being injured. That was the point I was trying to make in response to Hackey's post.

Yes! I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned more. I guess the media is just so used to Johnny that these things don't even stand out anymore...

The dude may be small, but damn he's strong where he needs to be. The core and arm strength required to make that pass that hard and in the air seems like it shouldn't be able to fit inside of his body.

Now this scenario, I actually wouldn't mind.

Considering Tkachuk had 3 primary assists - and all nice plays easily deserving of assists, probably not.
Tkachuk’s 4 point game against Vancouver (game 2 of the season) was MUCH MUCH quieter. Every one of the 4 assists he had that game were secondary assists.
That’s the kind of player Tkachuk is though - Good things happen when he’s on the ice, because his hockey IQ is so high. You sometimes don’t notice him in the play, but he’s there, and shortly after, the team puts the puck in the net.

That's so insulting. That's Rob Halford the lead singer of Judas Priest. Bono sucks compared to him.

I didn't know Monny can even skate that fast. That's the fastest I've seen him skate up ice in that OT!

He skates like a #2C at best.

I just noticed Bill kept his hands in his pocket after the goal. We were more excited than him I guess.

There are some good Philly fan reactions if you re watch the Gaudreau goal. Quite a few sat in that end zone. Guy throwing his hat on the floor made me lol. Just the ones of fans sitting stunned as Flames fans erupt is illustrative too

Use Brodie or Hanifin as the "Gaudreau".
Then Jankowski/Bennett/Neal up front. Jankowski and Bennett can retrieve and go to the net. Neal can shoot - either side - they can rotate.
Probably not two raw rookies. Yet. But both Valimaki or Kylington down the road. Jeebus the future on D looks nice.
|
I've noticed (and not just the last game where it directly lead to a SH-goal against) that Hanifin gets beat quite often. He's either not a very fast skater, or wouldn't be the ideal other D on PP2.

Go Ras Go!

He has such a knack for making really good/quick decisions at the blue line, especially when under pressure and he has a really good one timer. He should be given some more responsibility on PP2 instead of Hanifin, I think he deserves a chance at the very least.

I think they should run 2 D on pp2.

They're the only team in the league with a positive goal differential with the goalie pulled.
They've also outscored their opponents 10-1 when the other team has the goalie pulled (and the one GA was a 6-on-4).
