soo.. Rittich and Gillies tandem again? Not sure how I feel about that. Treliving needs to go out and try to find a goalie.

Well I've been saying for a while this team should not be starting Smith at home unless it's absolutely necessary. Fans are getting tired of the soft goals and it's just a bad situation for everyone involved including Smith who simply hasn't played well in the Dome since becoming a Flame. I'm not a huge fan of Smith but I don't like to see any Flame boo'ed or jeered at home. I wish the coaching staff would stop putting him, the fans, and the team in this situation.

Rittich/Gillies tandem seems likely. I’m not as concerned as I was last year in the same situation, as Big Save Dave looks way more comfortable now than he did at that time, and the team has demonstrated they can win in spite of subpar performances in net. It’s not like it was in previous years where a bad goal was basically game over.
It will really depend on how long Smith is out as well. If we’re talking a matter of months then yeah, maybe you look at the trade market or waiver wire. A few weeks, meh, play Rittich who has been good enough to give the team a chance to win, and give Gillies the easy matchups and go from there.

1st in the West, great comeback victory, 1st time since 1993 the team had been in this position.
Thankfully we have some posters reminding us over and over and over again how much Smith sucks, or how much they dislike Smith.
Can’t we enjoy this team for 5 friggin minutes before some have to ram the negativity down our throats? We’re supposed to be fans of this team, this is supposed to be fun.
What a depressing PGT.

Just saw this one on HFOil (they are still talking about the game):
" Its a like a team playing for boxscores and trying to get Gaudreau, Monahan, Gio most points possible."
Seriously?

They are just mad that we can actually do what they spent most of the last decade claiming they could do, but never managed.
That said, this team needs to seriously reduce the percentage of games where we are trailing when entering the third.

Fortunately the rest of the team has picked up the slack but it's probably going to cost the Flames at some point this season.

It's surprising to me because it's old news and the flames are winning in spite of it.
Smith stinks or he's great. Same ol same ol.

I loved the win, but that was really an awful game played by the Flames. Yes, they managed to impose their will on a weaker team, but for too many long stretches the Flyers maintained sustained offensive zone pressure, and got way too many odd-man rushes and in-tight scoring chances I thought.

I like that opposing fans are calling him "Gio" .
It implies affection

For how low the shots against were, it was bad defensive play. The Flames sure seem to give up a lot of odd man rushes and breakaways. And it's not always the rookies doing it.

Ha.
The PGT, even after one of the greatest comeback wins ever, is still pretty much unreadable.
Thanks to all who made it so.

Since it's from an Oilers fan, I'd assume it implies an inability to spell Giordano.

I wonder if the Flames can bypass Stockton and call up Schneider from KC, just to ensure Gillies and Parsons continue to get games in the AHL. And Schneider played pretty well in the AHL.
I agree, Rittich looks like a different guy than the one who couldn't handle starting when Smith went down (fingers crossed).

It always makes me laugh when Oilers fans talk about horseshoes.
They won 4! draft lotteries including the one for the best player of his generation. Always seem to have the easiest schedule where they get most teams on a back to back, and then whine that everyone else is lucky and they are unlucky.

Not a great game by the boys overall - especially defensively - but they never quit, and they found a way to get it done. They are nothing, if not entertaining! Which is such a stark contrast to last year.
And on that note, it was really interesting to read the comments from Philly fans about Hakstol. They sounded exactly like GG: fast skaters but slow team, move up as a group (making it too easy to defend), passing made difficult because the players were too close together, trying to protect a one goal lead with a shell, and boring, boring hockey.
I mean, that is exactly what we were complaining about for 2 years. I wonder if they came up through the ranks together?

Kudos to Peters for another textbook Flames win:
- Smith posts a 0.714 save%
- Couturier with 2 goals and an assist
- Philly with four second period goals, plus a shorty in the third
- Neal held pointless with a -4
How many teams in the NHL can defend against a strategy like that?
