It only hurt us for one game where we lost 1-0. Any damage done was minimized.

we could use Backlund back soon though.

The Flames top line is absolutely stupid good. Johnny is in complete control when he enters the zone with the puck, draws attention, slows the game down, distributes the puck so effectively, and just completely fools the opposition. I have to check myself when I watch him to ensure I don't take for granted what he does almost every shift. The quick pivots, the head fakes and instant changes in direction, the backhand passes that squeeze through skates and sticks and hit his teammates tape, his ability to gain the zone with ease, his deceptive speed. Truly a treat to watch. IMO he is the Flames MVP this season so far.

Smith has been playing well lately, that's not a mirage, but it's obvious that his issues are still there, and being his age I'd say it's likely that this very inconsistent goalie is who he is. I think he can still be good in limited action, but he was handed the bet back which looks like it was a mistake by Peters. I hope we see Rittich with a few starts now so Smith can get back to doing whatever it was he was doing to get back inte the groove last time around. The guy should be 1b at most for the remainder of the season.

Great win Flames.

Now please Peters, take Derek Ryan off the PP, put him on the 4th line for the foreseeable future and scratch Neal for a couple of games.

Andersson and Kylington both made some good, confident plays tonight.

that was a frustrating game to watch for most of it. flyers got some godly puck luck and smith crapped the bed once again. the third period, the string of bad pps against the worst pk in the league (plus the shg against) nearly made me stop watching, but the ending was glorious. loved the celebration from gaudreau. the game meant something to him.

despite the horrible scoreline for most of the game, mainly stemming from smith being horrible again, the flames handily outplayed the flyers. please, for the love of god, let rittich have the net for a while now. he made several huge saves despite the limited shots against and made the all-important one in ot when monahan lost his coverage again. rittich has earned the net several times over this season

Did we have a single good comeback under Gulutzan?

I know we gave up a bunch of leads but I remember feeling the game was over after we were down by 1.

Holy crap! I was at work and missed most of the game. Saw that it was 5-3 in the 3rd just as I was heading home and I figured the Flames (or Smith) had crapped the bed, and it put me in a sour mood. I get home and it's tied at 5. They scored the OT goal even before I could get my shoes off. What a comeback!

Any word on Smith? The guys on the panel said he didn't come back on the bench in the 3rd and they figured he might be injured.

Smith’s whiff on a dump in would be the example for Smith helping Neal’s -, no?

I am not even being a homer when I say he is the best passer in the NHL. His ability to get pucks through traffic and find guys is mind boggling at times. Sure he has the odd turnover but all great playmakers do.

Steinberg says he can confirm that Smith was injured and that was why he didn't return for the 3rd.

No word on severity of injury or what the injury is

Eric Francis @EricFrancis
Peters on why Smith didn’t play the third: “I just got word late (in the intermission) he wasn’t right.” Wouldn’t say if he was sick or injured.

Whatever injury Smith has, it's time to finally rest and heal.
