I will gladly hand Gaudreau a trophy for most giveaways in the league if he keeps up what he's been doing this year.

Virtanen has always had a couple skills that can translate really well as long as he isn't asked to be a driver or a decision maker on a line. He can skate fast and shoot hard. He's never been a dangler.

Bennett's junior strengths haven;'t translated to the NHL. he's developing some NHL abilities, but they have little to do with his junior success.

Here's the thing I don't get, Hometown Hockey is supposed to be a national broadcast, not a regional one, and it is supposed to promote a Canadian town. The Flames are first in the west for the first time at this time of the year since 1993, and they are a Canadian team. Yet yesterday you would think that Flames weren't even on the ice with the Oilers. Not even a peep about missing Giordano, Backlund, Frolik, nothing about the Predators game the night before, nothing about Monahan, Gaudreau, Lindholm being one of the top lines in the NHL.

Amazing...McDavid...he...is...so...fast

I think they kinda let Bob Cole set the tone for his last broadcast in EDM, and to me it sounded like he wanted to say 'thank you' for the past 50 years so kept it a little homerish. I didn't have a huge problem with it, and I felt Debrusk's homerism was actually funny like when McDavid lost his stick.
Bob had a great and unique style, and it shone through at times last night. But it was mostly him missing important plays.

PS: Hate losing to the Oil, no matter what the circumstances or standings are.

I agree no mention of 3 games in 4 nights, all I heard was the Calgary Flames are first in the Western Conference and the Edmonton Oilers lead 1-0 in the Battle of Alberta.

Not to mention that BOA games are as close to playoff hockey as they're going to get so they bring a higher level of intensity than you'd expect.

Need some scoring from Bennett and Neal.
On pace for 18 goals combined.
It's all good when the top line is scoring 3 a night, but when they are off it's pretty dry...

Lucic connected with a pretty flush, solid shot and Peluso looked, only for a second, like he got rocked. He was still good to go I think, but the refs jumped in "in case" which I think is the right thing to do under the circumstances. I'd have liked to see them carry on too, but err on the side of caution is likely the correct call in that case.

Just want to say:

Neal has been a massive disappointment thus far.

Smith has been terrible for over half of his starts this year.

PP2 yet again has been unspectacular (better lately though).

PK has been below average all year.

With all of that taken into consideration the Flames are still third in the league and first in the West.

They have scored at a top 5 pace and limited shots at a top 5 pace.

Lindholm and Peters have been revelations. Smith has started to find his game. If Bennett or Neal can get going watch out. What a fun team.

Bennett hasn't been great in recent games ...

Didn't like his play in Columbus or home against Minny or Nashville.

Last night he was better towards the end of the game after a late first with two turnovers. He was unlucky on the McDavid goal because his backcheck was spot on but it deflected.

But the guy has played solid hockey for two months. At least you had to wait a long time for the "bust" comment this time around. Hopefully said comment doesn't fit again until the middle of February

The team has been on a great run and given 3 games in 4 nights and no Gio or Backlund it's no surprise they didn't play well last night. I don't see why so many fans are panicking after this game of all games. Sure it sucks to lose to the Oilers but the cards were also stacked heavily in their favor and they still only barely won because of a coin flip goal reversal. They now have a few days rest and can get back to practicing as they probably haven't had much opportunities of late to get in quality practice time.

Agreed.

That has to be a once in a while play, not a go to.

Hanifin scored on it in Columbus though, maybe that's the quota for this quarter.

I think the problem with PP 2 is that they try the same system and style as PP1 but they don't have the right personnel. And they have an incompatible mix. They have a net crasher (Bennett), a close in shooter (Neal), a point guy who doesn't shoot (Brodie) and Ryan and Backlund who aren't really that good at making plays. They aren't really capable of the pretty plays PP1 does, but they also don't put enough at the net for Bennett to be effective.

I wonder if they should put Lindholm on PP2 and let Neal play PP1.

In certain aspects, no question.

He has been an offensive black hole for 2 1/2 years now though.

For whatever reason, he has seemingly neutered and altered Tkachuks game since his promotion as well.

Maybe he just needs to be attached to the 4th line and let him stay there....but pay him as such moving forward too.

If the situation was reversed, we'd have heard about it no fewer than a dozen times.

That was horrendous. It was like when a new boss is by himself trying to speak everyone's names so when he steps out of the office he sounds natural and on the ball with his new staff.

Can't decide on the nickname for the latest No Good goalie experiment.

The guy doesn't or at least hasn't produced, I won't argue that. The longer it goes on the more it seems likely it's what he is regardless of chances.

Not prepared to blame other players not playing well on him though. Tkachuk has been off for a couple of weeks, and is certainly missing Backlund more than Bennett is neutering him.
