Since the PIT game, the Flames have been pretty good:

14-4-2 (2nd most wins)
30 Pts (2nd)
0.750 W% (1st)
74 GF (3rd)
47 GA (1st)
+27 Goal Diff (1st)

That goal differential is well over +1 per game - that's insane!

It's great to see the team gelling, the new guys performing, the rookie defense stepping up and Smith bouncing back.

The biggest thing is having a coaching staff do their jobs correctly, in game and off the ice, and make those adjustments as needed.

It's been a long time coming, but I'm very happy it's coming together!

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

The bolded is the single biggest take away from all listed.

Scoring goals is great and pleases fans etc....but when you aren't giving up a lot, it makes winning easier....and winning makes everyone happy.

And in that stretch, I think they controlled the pace of all but one of the games (the Vegas shutout)

They are winning because they are the better team almost every night.

Teams that have 1 good line (Dallas, Colorado, the grease) can't keep up with the superior depth and teams without any top end talent (Preds, Wild, Habs) can't stop the top line from shredding them.

In a 7 game series I don't think any current Western playoff team takes these Flames more than 6 games.

If they can play the rest of the season like they have the first 30 games, I'm going to need to start booking time off in June.

Easy now.

The Jets, healthy Preds, possibly the Sharks/Avs/Knights all say hello.

Flames are on a nice roll and look completely legit but there is a loooong way to April at this point so its kind of hard to anoint them champs just yet.

Nuts that they had a better record 9 years ago after 30 games but not first in the conference. San Jose I guess ahead of them?

Hopefully things turn out better in round 1 than from that seasons 1994 playoffs.

Even without Giordano and underrated Backlund, a major challenge tomorrow night for the Oilers in the BOA

Stauffer is going to get his press credentials revoked by der Komissar Lowe if he writes anymore stuff like this. I am surprised that Stauffer comes out with anything like faint praise for the Flames. He must have been drunk when he wrote this.

The thing is, without Gulutzan, the Flames also don't have Peters today. He was under contract in Carolina two years ago, and Ron Francis at the time had no interest in letting him go. With another coach over the past two years, who knows where the Flames would be today? But I am fairly convinced it would not be with Peters behind the bench.

Without Gulutzan last year, Smith doesn't get injured with seconds left in a game last year, Backlund doesn't get concussed two games ago and it's difficult to distinguish between my Aunt and Uncle. At least, I think that's the way it works.

Without Gulutzan last year, that butterfly in the Andes doesn't flap its wings at the precise moment to open up a time vortex in the North Atlantic going back to 1912, and the iceberg doesn't plop down directly in the path of the Titanic, and Leonardo diCaprio never gets to be rich and famous.

You just can't risk messing with these things.

Pretty sure we see Peluso vs Lucic.

Who wins?

There needs to be a flood of Prince/Johnny photoshops.

Each a diminutive genius with an affinity for what is purple.

Usually i would agree with this sentiment, but it's a quarter of a century since the team has been this good.

i think optimism is warranted at this point. For Flames fans, this is pretty much as good as it gets.
