I like the fact that in the time I've listened to 92.9 I've heard three different Beastie Boys songs. It reminded me how cool Paul's Boutique really is.

This station sounds a lot like FM96 here in London. This station has won awards for being different. Problem with that station is listening to it during the day is like listening to someone scratch a chalk board. TheoryofaNickelCreed and pseudopoppunk crap type bands all day, but at 8:00pm or so the station is much better, especially on Fridays and Satruday's.

Sounds kinda like the FOX in Vancouver...still play the Nickelcrap etc...but they play songs/bands that CJAY 92 doesn't even acknowledge exist. Let's face it, anything is gonna be better than CJAY for Calgary rock fans.

Any station that has the balls to play Public Enemy, Prodigy, Sublime, etc is gonna thrive in the city. I'm interested to see how CJAY/Jack/and maybe even Vibe counter act this.
Although I can't get my hopes up too much. I worked for a station in Red Deer that played classical music (Bach, Motzart, etc) for their testing period before they launched a classic rock station. A test is a test... new stations are hard to read until their official LAUNCH date.

Giving this thread a bump because...it deserves it I was listening to Q as usual...then the frickin' Five Man Electrical Band came on, again, and I thought "Okay, I'm going to find that new station on the dial". I'm glad I did.
X92.9 from what I've heard...is like going back 10-15 years to the glory years of CJAY. Yes, I like the "classic modern rock". Tool, Pumpkins, Radiohead, etc. That's what a lot of my album collection consists of. But I expect the station to bring more. I expect they will play new bands, bands that I haven't heard before. That's what I want my radio station to be. I want radio to help me discover good, new music. CJAY hasn't done that in 10 years.
To be sure, I've heard some crap songs on X so far. I'll take it. Without exaggeration, 9/10 "new rock" songs on CJAY are crap. On X so far, that's been about 1/5. I like that ratio much better.

I'll listen and hear 5 songs I know, and the next time I'll only hear one song I know. Even the hip I hear is stuff I haven't heard in a while. Then I'll hear Sabotage, and then something I won't know.

Seems to be targeted precisely at my age group. Most of the songs I've heard have been from the early to mid 90s which is exactly when I was in my teens and really in to the music coming out at that time. Just enough old-school hip-hop thrown in like Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill to fulfill the odd craving.
Hopefully the format remains the same when they go live.

I'm already listening to X far more than any other station, and they still have the crap audio.
Can't say I was too impressed with Eminem's "My name is" being played though. I have nothing against Eminem, but that song is one of the worst he ever did.

Well, the program director for this station is the same guy who started out q107, he left there to take this gig so only time will tell how it will turn out. I would like a station similar to sonic up in Edmonton.
