So the Oilers caveman Milan Lucic is allowed to stalk a Lightning player up and down the ice, slashing him and baiting him and when the Lightning player ignores the Oiler goon, the Oiler assclown jumps him, sits on him and punches him several times in the face and Lucic gets away with just a fine. Kassian jumps Tkachuk punching him, what is the suspension or fine? Zippo!!! How are either of these incidents so different to what Lomberg did? Seems that there is a different set of rules depending on which Alberta team you play for.

The NHL is the NHL. Can’t be arsed trying to explain the inconsistencies.

I think we will be okay though. It’s only 2 games. They are big games but most of the guys putting the puck in the net these days will still be playing and Smith has rediscovered himself.

There will be a point where everyone will be available again (Stone, Val). It would be far worse if we weren’t top of our division. Let’s have some faith in whoever fills in for Gio and Backlund. I think Backs might be back quicker than we think.

But the NHL did punish the Oilers, by allowing Lucic to continue to play.

Just saw the news on Gio's suspension. No doubt the Oilers are doing cartwheels over this, including Backlund being out.

At least it'll be even funnier if they end up losing that game.

Gio being suspended sure helps the Wild lol

Flames play their divisional rival and then the team they are fighting for a wild card spot with

some real adversity. infuriating that it's because of the consistently atrocious officiating in this league, but some real adversity nonetheless. hopefully it brings them together and they respond strongly. it would be hilarious if they still win against edmonton with the backbone of the team out

Never suspended in a 13 year career and now throwing 2 games at him? It’s surprising that repeat offenders are still in the league if that’s the bar being set.

When he gets jumped next Saturday to fight in Minnesota, think there is supplemental discipline coming? But anyone takes a legit run at Dumba in 8 days will get penalized to the fullest extent.

All of a sudden the Calgary Flames are one of the dirtiest teams in the league. Ya this is what I thought at the start of the year. Give me a break.

That was the beginning of a string of injuries that decimated the team and made them limp into the playoffs.

Also, it was Minnesota in 2010 that cross-checked Langkow right when the defensemen was about to shoot... that lead to the puck hitting him in the back of the neck. I’m pretty sure that one ended his career.

And the slash-fest against gaudreau 2 years ago will always stand out as an example of how poorly officiated this league is. Minnesota has a history of dirty play causing injuries to the flames.

Wasn't it Minnesota when Johnny broke his finger? That was the night of 21 slashes and no penalty!!

Minnesota Wild were and still are a dirty team. Cut from the same cloth as the Anaheim Ducks.

And, of course, an ex-Duck runs the Department of Player Safety.

This is a good test for the depth of this team. Losing 2 key guys like Backlund and Gio is not great, but I think this team has enough depth to cover for them. Still, it's too bad the Flames won't have them against the Preds and Oilers.

Agreed. The timing couldn't be worse, and in a sense, that makes it the best test for the teams depth.
