feel bad for Lomberg...if he is a higher profile guy he doesn't get an extra game for no reason

eesh yeah regarding the D. I guess the 2 guys they got from the Habs for Kulak both have NHL experience, but not sure they are good options. I think they just have the 4 left- the guy they got for Klimchuk and Healey being the others?

Time for other players to step up in the absence of Gio and Backlund. Flames have been pretty fortunate to date with icing a healthy lineup most nights so hard to complain.

No suspension to Dumba, Giordano gets 2, lose Backlund long term... pretty much the worst win I've watched in a long time.
Wonder if Monahan wears the C this weekend and who gets the second A with Gio and Backlund out, or if they just go with 2 Assistants.
I'd put the second A on Bennett or Hamonic

Back to being the league Mario Lemieux described a long time ago. Garage league.
So much inconsistency. Just absolute crap. Gio tripped him FFS . Man so stupid.
Why this happens so often is beyond me.

Not sure how you think I'm implying that Flames players are above the rules, most it should have been is a fine in my opinion. That said, it's done and time to move on.

Crazy that 3 of our top 7 dmen will be out against the Oil and I still take our D over theirs.

Meh. I'm not willing to go all Oilers fan and cry the world is against us. Flames are a good team in first place. They can overcome this.

would be shocked if they doled out a C in Gios absence

A little adversity isn't a bad thing.
Us against the world doesn't hurt either.

How many games did Kunitz get for the elbow? I can't remember.
Still waiting to hear how many games Dumba gets for the head shot.

totally agree they have been pretty healthy but this is a bit of a depth tester
3 of their top 7 D and 2/3 of historically their best defensive forwards out on a big weekend against a top team and their top rival
will be a good test. its nice to see there are still some depth options, but is harder to piece together a solid looking blueline especially without last change in EDM

Three recent situations. I am curious how everyone would rank them with respect to egregiousness and/or 'suspendibility'.
Kunitz on Hamonic - resulted in broken nose
Giordano on Koivu - resulted in yet-unknown leg injury
Dumba on Backlund - resulted in concussion

big weekend coming up for Brodie, Hanifin and Hamonic. Have to imagine they will all play A LOT. Up front, time for the likes of Ryan, Bennett and Neal to step up.
have to imagine Lazar and Healey get a call-up. Obviously Healey won't play but good on him if he gets some NHL money.

Sorry, haven’t waded through the whole thread but can Gio grieve the suspension and continue playing until it’s either upheld or reduced? I’d much rather have him for Nashville/Edmonton than Philly/Minnesota.

Agree.
Funny that you could apply the head shot "finesse" the league often cites by saying the knee wasn't the initial point of contact. See Dumba, Matt.
I don't think it's a defensible hit, but 2 games is pretty harsh.
Also, using injury as a trigger is a weird one. Supposedly Hamonic's nose is broken from the Kunitz hit, but that's just a broken nose and not really an "injury" I guess.
As usual, it's never a good idea to try and examine penalties retrospectively. Just makes one angry.

I can't speak for Kunitz and Dumb but Gio had a history sticking his leg out and injuring players. I'm not sure why so many of you are having a hard time grasping that.

Hamonic deserves it over Bennett.
