Yes, it's not easy to recall all the plays that the opposing team did not make, since, you know, they didn't make them. That's part of what makes a player's defensive contribution so difficult to measure.

Other than the GWG against the Ducks, their first line with Getzlaf has dominated posession over the past two series. Whose job was it to stop them? I would guess Backlund, no?

So… you guess. And that's enough, because you don't need no steenkin' evidence.
And you know, it's funny that you should say the Getzlaf line dominated possession, since you're not keeping track of those useless possession stats (certainly not citing them) and just going by the eye test. Or do you remember every play on every shift from those two series, too?

I am not argue about this further. I need to get some work done and this topic is getting a little boring and some posters have asked us to stop arguing very nicely.
That being said, if you don't think the Getzlaf line had their way over the past two series with the Flames... I am not sure what to tell you. The Flames were often pinned when that line was on the ice and that is why they ultimately swept the Flames and won in 5 in the other series. Eye-test needs to count for something, otherwise, the PGT after every game shouldn't exist. Oh, and unfortunately, I don't know every single play on every shift, I wish I had that type of memory. However, I do remember trends.
Honestly though, have an awesome weekend! It's Friday and only a few more hours until the weekend
Cheers!

Backlund is awesome and the Flames would hang up the phone if the Oilers ever offered McDavid 1-1 for him. He is the best defensive player in the league and the Flames are so lucky to have him. There... this should get me some "thanks"

If you think that the Backlund line was solely responsible for that… well, I am not sure what to tell you either. But there you go, citing your own subjective memory of events that occurred years ago, in which you yourself admit that you don't remember who was on the ice for the Flames, and claiming that this is an indictment of Backlund specifically.
There are non sequiturs, and then there is Dada. This falls pretty close to the border of Dada.

I was hoping there was an outside chance we’d see Tkachuk Bennett Neal now. I think those three together would be a nightmare.

Providing a meaningless stat about shots means nothing. Shooting at a goalies chest 20 times means less than 1 breakaway.
|
When it comes to McDavid I could honestly not care less whether every single shot by the Flames shutdown line is wide of the net if it means them having the puck on their sticks. Backlund's shot quality is irrelevant if it means that McDavid is not shooting.

Pretty much this. When it comes to the Oilers, you shut down McDavid, you shut down pretty much that whole team's offence. So if Backlund's line ends the night where they were held shotless, but kept McDavid off the scoresheet, I'd say that line had a successful game.

Ah, another poster who don't need no steenkin' evidence. I, for one, was cautiously optimistic about that trade at the time. So much for your ‘garuntee’.

So, do they call up Dube and feed him minutes at C between Bennett and Tkachuk? I mean thats the whole reason they sent him down, there wasn't enough minutes for him.
If Lindholm absolutely can not and should not be taken off the top line, I guess Dube is a decent idea.

I think it makes more sense to move Jankowski up to that spot, and move Dube into Jankowski's spot, if you are bringing up Dube.

Wills and Pinder speculating that if Giordano misses any time then the defense pairs would break down as follows:
Hanifin · Hamonic
Kylington · Brodie
Prout · Andersson
I for one am not all that keen on pairing Kyllington with Brodie.

Brodie is straight fire right now, as the kids say these days. I actually think it makes the most sense. He has the wheels to cover any rookie mishaps the kid may make.

When you have 3 defensemen out, there is going to be some shakiness with the lineup
Also, one L in Kylington

Maybe. But I still think a good portion of Brodie's issues the last two seasons had less to do with playing on the left side, and more with other factors. He was sensational on the left side in 2014–15 while playing with Deryk Engelland. I think he would look really good with Andersson.

If Giordano does get suspended, I would imagine they would appeal, which would likely keep him in the lineup for the weekend.

If the NHLPA files an appeal, the player remains suspended during the appeal process (but not longer than the length of the suspension).
Don't believe the team has any avenue to appeal a decision for supplementary discipline.
