Don't be silly. Any goal scored against the Flames is as soft as whipped cream and proves that our goalies suck.!
That's the logic for any goal scored on Smith to some. I'm a little surprised to not hear a bunch of complaining about how despite the win he had yet another sub .900 SV% game.
Also smith still looks like the shakier of the two goalies that we have. Yes rittich didn’t have a great night but smith has done nothing to deserve being called a #1 again
In general, I have more faith in Rittich than Smith.
But it's worth pointing out how each goalie has fared recently:
Smith's last 4 games: 4-0 (@ CBJ in relief, @ CHI, vs LA, @ ARI)
Rittich's last 3 games: 0-1-1 (pulled tonight, overtime loss vs DAL, @ VGK)
Goalies run hot and cold. However Smith has pulled out wins while Rittich hasn't. They'll likely flip-flop again, but this is exactly why you need 2 goalies throughout a season.

You don't try to take any conclusions out of a game like this. You gladly take the two points and move on to the next one.
Sometimes hockey just goes that way.
As for some saying Neal is bad, I might have agreed in the beginning of the season but I feel like he's turned the corner in the past week or so. He's still not getting rewarded with points but he's hard on the puck and getting some good shots in scoring areas. It's only a matter of time as long as he sticks with it. You can see he has that quick release and heavy shot that is hard to find. It's certainly rare among Calgary Flames' forwards. I suspect Neal will play an important role at some point this season we'll all be glad to have him.

The third goal was bad. Can’t go in, 19 times out of 20
The second - Passed to slot, goalie has to reset. Quick release. Goalie was screened. Perfectly placed inside the post. Why can’t people give Columbus credit for a good goal?
First - I thought the distraction of Gio and the guy in front wrestling for position contributed to a poorly controlled or placed rebound. Some people are sure he saw it. I don’t know how.
The timing of the third goal and the way it went in stunk.
But a giveaway made the shot possible.
Not horrible. Not great. Goals happen.
Not terrible but it was headed down the hill quickly. He played ok to start, but after having no clue on the first goal where it hit him and where the rebound may be, to just sit there, was a sign....and beaten clearly on the second, his confidence was suddenly in tatters to let in the third as he did.
As a poster mentioned, Peters probably talked to him and or saw the body language in the intermission and made the switch before the situation degerated further with his confidence, both for this game and the near future.

Holy paranoid.
Instead of digging for things to discredit Smith every time he wins you should be happy he's actually winning. As long as Rittich doesn't go on a huge slump he'll still get as many starts as Smith.

Who comes out when Frolik comes back? I think the coaching staff likes what Mang is bringing lately, and Czarnik looked pretty good. Hathaway maybe, but he’s been a staple so far. Good problems
8 times in Atlanta, 47 in Calgary. This is only the 3rd time in the last 20 years (22 years and 11 months to be precise), and all three were on the road.
The Flames have had some games where it looked like they were trying not to run up the score. That's scary!!
Tuesday night hockey vs. the Calgary Flames. With Dalton Prout in the line up. It doesn't get any better than this. Well, it does, but it's what we got tonight.
Go CBJ!

Can't wait to see the tribute video. Prolly will feature a then certain Bruin getting beaten down.

The thread title is apt because it was Proust who summed up the CBJ fan experience when he wrote "We are healed from suffering only when we experience it to the full."
What? Prout? No 's'?
Still.

My favorite Prout moment is when he dragged that Pittsburgh pup from the goal crease

My favorite Prout moment was when he KO'd Lucic.

My favorite Prout moment was everytime he was glued to the bench, if we’re being honest.

Gaudreau is a world class shooter. Yes he had full view, but you’re asking for trouble with him wide open in the top of the slot. It’s on Jones and Z

So since I'm with my nephews, we're doing the seasonal playing with dreidels thing. So far every time I've gotten a shin ("put one in"), the Jackets have put one in the net.

2. Dubinsky penalty.
3. 4 on 3, Dubois late getting back.
4. Werenski penalty.
5. Hanifin swoops in and Dubinsky and Wennberg hope the other guy gets him.
6. Dubois passes it back to Gaudreau and then gets outraced to the net by Brodie.

Hold everyone to the same ####ing standard torts. If our d men don't clear the front of the net, if we don't challenge players who enter our zone, they need benched.
We play weak in open ice and hope for the best while cycling the boards.

I'm not watching, just checking the scoreboard but how the **** do these Ronald Mcdonald wannabe ****s do this every. single. game.
Their roster is nothing impressive at all. It's not scary, nothing screams challenger for the top seed in the western conference, and their goaltending is average at best.
Baffling how every team in the league gets a multi goal lead on them and they fall asleep.
Quote:
Are you joking?
Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm and Tkachuk are all legit top line players playing at over a PPG.
Backlund is a legit 2c. They 5/6 very solid top 6 players. We have 3. They only have to fill one wing spot with slightly less than ideal wingers. We have to do that with 3.
Giordano is a legit #1 defender.
Rittich has been as good as Koskinen and has goal support.
Their defense is also substantially better than ours.
Calgary is a legit deep team, we can make fun of them all they want but if you replace Monohan with McDavid that team playoffs every year guarenteed.
Quote:
They have an actual top 6 unlike the Oilers. 4 guys with 30 points in their top six. Doesn't hurt they have Giordano over 20 points from the blue line.
Their GM has made some decent signings over the years and his bad signings/trades haven't completely crippled the team like Chiarelli's have. That trade with Carolina looks completely lopsided for Calgary right now as Dougie Hamilton has looked to have completely forgotten how to rack up points with the Hurricanes. Lindholm a monster for Calgary now.
Quote:
Giordano needs to hurry up and get old already.
Quote:
Calgary can come back I guess. We're never gonna get any help.
Quote:
Calgary has an incredible ability to just score at will and comeback. I'm jealous
Quote:
Calgary scores on literally every shot they take.
Oilers would still be trying to get on the board.

They are one of the best offensive teams in the league.

The Flames are much better than the Oilers right now in almost every aspect. It's depressing.

I dread the game on Sunday.

Plus Calgary won the Grey Cup @ Commonwealth Stadium. **** me...
Is this going to improve anytime soon?
Flames solidly in first place? I don't need more reasons to drink..
ps I'm not even watching but are both clubs playing without a goalie or is this a new episode of the 70's show?
8-6 and counting. First team to ten wins..
Quote:
The Jackets may as well just pull the goalie and play with the extra player if every shot is going to go in.
Quote:
The Flames might actually get 10.
Quote:
Torts will not be taking interviews this evening.
Quote:
The Oilers scored 9 goals combined in their last 5GP
sigh
Quote:
Flames probably have the easiest road to the cup this year given they are the only team worth a damn in the pacific.
