That's the logic for any goal scored on Smith to some. I'm a little surprised to not hear a bunch of complaining about how despite the win he had yet another sub .900 SV% game.

In general, I have more faith in Rittich than Smith.

But it's worth pointing out how each goalie has fared recently:

Smith's last 4 games: 4-0 (@ CBJ in relief, @ CHI, vs LA, @ ARI)
Rittich's last 3 games: 0-1-1 (pulled tonight, overtime loss vs DAL, @ VGK)

Goalies run hot and cold. However Smith has pulled out wins while Rittich hasn't. They'll likely flip-flop again, but this is exactly why you need 2 goalies throughout a season.

Smith totally ruined the BJ's game plan of dumping the puck in and going to work down low

You don't try to take any conclusions out of a game like this. You gladly take the two points and move on to the next one.

Sometimes hockey just goes that way.

As for some saying Neal is bad, I might have agreed in the beginning of the season but I feel like he's turned the corner in the past week or so. He's still not getting rewarded with points but he's hard on the puck and getting some good shots in scoring areas. It's only a matter of time as long as he sticks with it. You can see he has that quick release and heavy shot that is hard to find. It's certainly rare among Calgary Flames' forwards. I suspect Neal will play an important role at some point this season we'll all be glad to have him.

First - I thought the distraction of Gio and the guy in front wrestling for position contributed to a poorly controlled or placed rebound. Some people are sure he saw it. I don’t know how.

The timing of the third goal and the way it went in stunk.
But a giveaway made the shot possible.

Not horrible. Not great. Goals happen.
Not terrible but it was headed down the hill quickly. He played ok to start, but after having no clue on the first goal where it hit him and where the rebound may be, to just sit there, was a sign....and beaten clearly on the second, his confidence was suddenly in tatters to let in the third as he did.

As a poster mentioned, Peters probably talked to him and or saw the body language in the intermission and made the switch before the situation degerated further with his confidence, both for this game and the near future.

Lost in a crazy game was how nice Czarnik's goal was:

Would love to see Czarnik play with more confidence and use his speed to beat Dmen wide.

I don't think you want to play every game like that, but if you're down 4-1.... F it, pour on the offence.

Holy paranoid.

Instead of digging for things to discredit Smith every time he wins you should be happy he's actually winning. As long as Rittich doesn't go on a huge slump he'll still get as many starts as Smith.

Who comes out when Frolik comes back? I think the coaching staff likes what Mang is bringing lately, and Czarnik looked pretty good. Hathaway maybe, but he’s been a staple so far. Good problems

Smith and Rittich were the two best goalies on the ice (of four) in a win

Looks a bit like Nieuwendyk on that play. Reminds me of when Newy would lean into the player and head for the net.
